  1. Busy day for Topley snrpublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Essex (23-1) trail Kent (387) by 364 runs

Don Topley - father of Surrey and England seam bowler Reece - is back behind the microphone for the first time this season for BBC Essex at Chelmsford.

Looks like he's brought a decent-sized lunch to the commentary box with him too!

Wonder if he's shared any of that lunch with Ben?!

  2. Durham fight backpublished at 13:24 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Durham (103) trail Yorkshire (164-8) by 61 runs

I think Durham will probably be happy with how things have gone so far on the second day.

A 52-run partnership from Dawid Malan and Harry Brook took Yorkshire into the lead and they seemed to be coasting along at the time.

But the return of Chris Rushworth (pictured above) brought instant results as he had Malan caught behind for 30. Brook, who had been batting nicely, then pulled a shot straight into the hands of Jack Burnham at deep mid-wicket and he departed for 41. Matty Potts the bowler.

Ben Raine then took two wickets just before lunch. Jordan Thompson offered no shot and went leg before for one while Jonny Tattersall did the same and lost his off stump on 17.

  3. Heading for a "one-innings game"published at 13:20 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Sussex (176) lead Hampshire (147-8) by 29 runs

Sussex seamers bowled well this morning, keeping runs at a premium. Hampshire added just 70 for the loss of four wickets.

George Garton lead the way with two wickets in a seven over spell that cost of just 19 runs. Ollie Robinson chipped in with one, and Mitch Claydon picked up the prize wicket of Sam Northeast, the first of the morning.

This is heading towards a one-innings game.

  4. Yorkshire lose wicket before lunchpublished at 13:16 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Durham (103) trail Yorkshire (164-8) by 61 runs

Yorkshire were creeping towards lunch without scoring too many runs but one leave too many proves costly for Jonathan Tattersall.

He's bowled by Durham's Ben Raine for 17 with the last ball before lunch and Yorkshire are 164-8 - leading by 61 runs - and their chances of a three-figure first-innings buffer may be fading.

  5. Gubbins falls short but Middlesex take controlpublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Surrey (9-1) trail Middlesex (347-6 dec) by 338 runs

Middlesex's Nick Gubbins strode off The Oval earlier after finally being dismissed for 192.

Sadly no spectators to clap him off after his fine knock as normally there would be at the famous ground.

Before Friday's government announcement on some lockdown measures being paused, there had been due to be a crowd of up to 2,500 watching this match today, but the pilot event along with several others, were postponed.

  6. Somerset's morning without doubtpublished at 13:10 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Somerset (296) lead Glamorgan (71-6) by 225 runs

Here's an assessment of the first session of the second day by our man at Taunton....

And there is another wicket - right on the stroke of lunch at The Oval for Middlesex!

Tim Murtagh gets a birthday wicket as John Simpson takes a lovely low diving catch behind the stumps to dismiss Ryan Patel for just 4.

  9. Postpublished at 12:57 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Lunch time approaching in all nine matches.

Time for any more significant breakthroughs for the bowlers?

  10. wicket

    A Cook lbw b Milnes 8 (Essex 19-1 v Kent 387)

Big wicket for Kent and Alastair Cook is gone for Essex!

Matt Milnes traps him leg before for just 8 after he gets him playing around his front pad from around the wicket.

  11. Hampshire pegged back at Sussexpublished at 12:49 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Sussex (176) lead Hampshire (134-7) by 42 runs

Hampshire resumed on 77-4 this morning and have added 57 runs for the loss of a further three wickets.

Lewis McManus is the latest to fall - lbw off the bowling of Ollie Robinson for 10 - Ian Holland is still there on a steady 13 off 44 balls as Hants look to pass Sussex's first-innings total of 176.

  12. Surrey begin replypublished at 12:46 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    Surrey (0-0) v Middlesex (347-6 dec)

Here come Mark Stoneman and Ryan Patel to open Surrey's innings after Middlesex's declaration.

Birthday boy Tim Murtagh takes the new ball for the visitors from the Pavilion End.

  13. Play resumes at Tauntonpublished at 12:43 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Somerset (296) lead Glamorgan (56-6) by 240 runs

They're back on at Taunton after a brief 15-minute rain delay.

Can Craig Overton & co. pick up where they left off?

Graham Wagg (15*) has at least provided a little resistance for Glamorgan but they're still in deep trouble on 56-6.

  14. Middlesex declare on 347-6published at 12:39 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    Surrey v Middlesex 347-6 dec

Middlesex opt to declare their first innings on 347-6 with just under 20 minutes to go until lunch.

That means Surrey's openers will have a tricky little session to negotiate before the interval.

  15. Ones to watch: Leicestershirepublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    Hassan Azad

A left-handed opener who scored almost 1,200 runs at an average of 54 in his debut season last year (only Warwickshire's Dominic Sibley scored more), Hassan Azad has clearly worked hard in the close season and looks to have added more shots and greater athleticism to his impressive defensive armoury.

His ability to play the ball late, allied to unfailing concentration and an apparently unflappable temperament, make him a very hard man to get out.

  16. Leicestershire begin replypublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    Leicestershire (0-0) v Lancashire (322)

Leicestershire start their first innings after bowling Lancashire out for 322 and a chance for us to feature another "one to watch" from our BBC local radio commentators....

  17. Yorkshire lose Brook for 41published at 12:34 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Durham (103) trail Yorkshire (154-6) by 51 runs

Harry Brook got himself in but a loose pull-shot sees him caught at deep mid-wicket.

He goes for 41, like team-mate Tom Kohler-Cadmore yesterday, a good score in the context of the match.

Yorkshire already have a handy 51-run lead and have four wickets in hand.

  18. Borthwick joins the party for Surreypublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    Surrey v Middlesex 346-6

Surrey grab another Middlesex wicket as John Simpson departs for an entertaining 53.

Scott Borthwick traps him leg before as the visitors look to make the most of the last 10 overs they're allowed in this innings.

  19. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Tauntonpublished at 12:30 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Somerset (296) lead Glamorgan (56-6) by 240 runs

The heavens have opened at Taunton and the players rush off.

Some respite for Glamorgan from Craig Overton - who's taken four wickets this morning - though the Welsh side had slightly stemmed the tide from 38-6 to 56-6.

They need a further 41 to avoid the follow-on against Somerset.
