  2. What else is different from the County Championship?published at 11:26 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

    • A minimum of 90 overs in a day’s play rather than 96.
    • Each county’s first innings of a match can last no longer than 120 overs.
    • The follow-on will increase from 150 to 200 runs.
    • The new ball will be available after 90 overs rather than 80 overs.
    • Points awarded for a draw increase from five (in the County Championship) to eight to help mitigate against the impact of weather during a shortened competition.
    • All other points-scoring remains the same as in the County Championship, such as 16 points for a win with a maximum of five batting and three bowling bonus points in the first-innings. Those points are only available for the first 110 overs of the innings.
    • For the final, in the event of a draw, whichever team gains a first-innings lead will be determined the winner when both first innings are completed. In any other circumstance of a draw or tie, the trophy will be shared.
  3. How does the Bob Willis Trophy format work?published at 11:23 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

In case you weren't with us for the opening day yesterday, here's a reminder of how this competition works:

    • Rather than two divisions as is the case in the County Championship, The Bob Willis Trophy sees the 18 counties split into three regionalised groups of six.
    • Each county will play five four-day matches, meaning they will play the other teams in their group once.
    • The first round of fixtures start on Saturday with the final round of group matches starting on Sunday 6 September.
    • The two group winners with the most points after those five games will progress to the five-day final.

    Durham 103 v Yorkshire 100-4

They've lasted just 16 minutes at Durham and the players are off for rain.

It only looks like a shower and there's a stiff breeze to hopefully blow it over quickly.

Dawid Malan and Harry Brook have guided Yorkshire to 100-4 and they look set to build a decent first-innings lead.

And Jake Ball has made a breakthrough for Notts, finding the outside edge of Luis Reece, who's caught behind for a duck. Derbyshire are 14-1 in reply to 324.

A crucial first hour at Edgbaston this morning.

Northamptonshire need to restrict Warwickshire's lead, probably to under 100, to keep themselves in the match.

Outstanding pace bowling from Olly Stone against his old club yesterday - his figures were impressive and didn't flatter him.

  10. Interestingly poised at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 10:58 British Summer Time 2 August 2020

Durham (103) lead Yorkshire (84-4) by 19 runs

Plenty of success for the bowlers on day one at Chester-le-Street as 14 wickets fell.

Yorkshire seemingly in the ascendancy trailing by just 19 runs, but our man Jonathan Doidge tries to predict how day two might unfold.
