    Kent v Middlesex 99-4

It looks glorious at Canterbury. Well, glorious-ish anyway.

What would be a good final hour for each side here? Kent would like a couple or three wickets no doubt.

And Middlesex would like to escape without loss - Robbie White risks a quick single but there is no direct hit from the run-out attempt. That was a slight gamble.

And we're back under way at Canterbury - hurrah!

Kent return with a decent over from Matt Milnes, conceding just two runs - and he almost claims a wicket with his final ball of the six but it just nips past the tentative bat of debutant Jack Davies without a touch.

  3. Postpublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Kent v Middlesex 94-4

So, we await the resumption at Canterbury, where the game should restart in a couple of minutes.

It needs to - else with Warwickshire and Somerset coming off for bad light at Edgbaston, that would mean we have no cricket to write about.

    And that would never do.

    Northants 90-4 v Worcs 219

Rain has left Northants and Worcestershire unable to continue this seesaw affair after tea at Wantage Road and the umpires have made the decision to end play for day two.

It's been a fascinating game that could still go either way.

Riki Wessels' adventurous 88 helped Worcestershire recover from 84-5 as he and Ben Cox recorded a sixth-wicket stand of 128 - but the Pears collapsed from 212-5 to 219 all out as Blessing Muzarabani took 4-29.

In reply, Worcestershire looked on top after reducing the hosts to 60-4 but Northants have added 30 runs without loss since. This one is finely poised - if the weather allows.

  5. 'Formality' ends play at Hovepublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

The situation at Hove is not great. It stopped raining by 3.30 and we have had blue skies and sunshine since.

After a long period of discussion in the middle the groundstaff resorted to playing their own game of cricket rather than clearing the tarpaulins and covers.

Clearly it is very damp, especially at the Cromwell Road End, but it was surprising that no effort was made to get the ground fit to play. The 5.00 inspection to call play off became a formality.

Given the similar weather and early abandonment at the Ageas Bowl you have to wonder whether umpires are taking a different approach to getting play going without the paying public being there to offer gentle encouragement.

  6. Rain halts Glamorgan's ordealpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Glamorgan 80-5 v Gloucestershire - close

Well, 48 overs of play is a whole lot better than the 0 overs able to be bowled at Sophia Gardens on the opening day, but it may have felt like twice as many for Glamorgan.

Rain prevented any play after tea with the home side pinned down by relentlessly accurate Gloucestershire seam bowling.

Only six boundaries have been conceded, but Billy Root toughed it out for just short of two hours for his 18 not out.

Josh Shaw took 2-12 for the visitors, with one wicket each for David Payne, Matt Taylor and George Scott.

  7. Bad light stops playpublished at 17:18 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Warks 121 v Somerset 214-6

And just as I type that, the players again leave the field at Edgbaston for bad light.

At such a late hour, you wonder whether they will return but Somerset will be the far happier of the two sides, a lead of 93 giving them hope of maintaining their 100% Bob Willis Trophy record this summer.

  8. Gregory going for itpublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Warks 121 v Somerset 214-6

As it stands, this Edgbaston encounter is our only game across the country - although hopefully that will change with inspections planned at Kent and Sussex.

Somerset's lead is now approaching 100 and Lewis Gregory seems to be in a rush, hitting a run-a-ball 14, including three almost identikit leg-side boundaries off the bowling of Tim Bresnan.

Steve Davies is still there alongside him on 56.

There will be a further inspection at 17:15 at the Spitfire Ground in the hope of play starting at 17:30, with 16 overs to bowl.

Let's hope they are 16 action-packed, edge of the seat overs.

  10. Double strike boosts Foxespublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Durham 227-6 v Leicestershire - close

There's been so much in-out, in-out at Grace Road today, it's been like watching the world hokey cokey championship.

They are now done for the day after 22,3 overs of play in which Durham added 51 to their first-day 176-3.

After the early loss of Alex Lees, Jack Burnham and Gareth Harte added 46 before both departed in successive overs during a brief resumption, which proved to be the day's final action.

Ned Eckersley and Paul Coughlin have yet to score.

50 for Daviespublished at 17:00 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Warks 121 v Somerset 203-6

    Steve Davies.Image source, Getty Images

Steve Davies registers a wonderful half-century with his ninth boundary, just nudging Oliver Hannon-Dalby's delivery to the boundary with seemingly the greatest simplicity.

    Fantastic knock from the wicketkeeper-batsman.

His 50 also nudges Somerset past the 200-mark, meaning a batting point to add to the three bowling points they picked up on Saturday.

  12. Play called off in Leedspublished at 16:57 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

    Yorkshire 288-4 v Derbyshire

There will be no more play at Headingley, where we have seen only one over bowled during the day.

Two of Michael Cohen's six deliveries were despatched to the boundary by Dawid Malan, who is 153 not out.

Partner Johnny Tattersall was stuck at the non-striker's end for the entire over, so he's still on his first-day score of 64.

    We will try again tomorrow.

    C Overton lbw b Bresnan 25 (Somerset 191-6)

Well, that didn't take long. I was just about to type that play had resumed at Edgbaston and we have a wicket already...

It's a delivery Craig Overton himself would have been proud of - but instead he's the one in the firing line, unable to get his pad out of the way of a stonker of a ball from Tim Bresnan.

Steve Davies remains at the crease for Somerset, three runs short of his half-century.

  14. South Grouppublished at 16:48 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

It's hard to see any outright results occurring in this pool with the rain allowing only pockets of play on the second day.

Hampshire might fancy their chances if they can quickly get rid of the Surrey tail on Monday with the visitors languishing on 130-8 but play was called off very early at Arundel on Sunday.

The other two games - Middlesex on 94-4 at Kent and Sussex on 155-6 against Essex - are about to find out if they can resume with inspections planned at both Canterbury and Hove in the next 15 minutes.

  15. Central Grouppublished at 16:45 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

Leaders Somerset are perhaps the best-positioned of all 18 sides in this round of Bob Willis Trophy fixtures - going along fairly nicely on 190-5 having bowled Warwickshire out for 121 on Saturday at Edgbaston.

Play has been suspended there for bad light but the umpires are hopeful it will resume soon - as will be Somerset's Steve Davies who is nearing a half-century.

Glamorgan are in trouble at 80-5 after Gloucestershire's bowlers dominated the first forays of their rain-hit clash, with both teams now hoping the weather relents to allow a post-tea resumption.

Northants, who have recovered to 90-4 after a poor start, and Worcestershire are also awaiting the green light to restart play at Wantage Road.

  17. North Grouppublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

As our previous post mentioned, Nottinghamshire have been denied the chance to add to their first-day 268-2 by Sunday's complete washout against Lancashire against Trent Bridge. A draw looks almost inevitable.

There has been very little play at Headingley but Yorkshire moved on to 288-4 against Derbyshire. No re-start time has been set but the rain is easing in Leeds so fingers crossed.

Leicestershire and Durham have been on and off more times than Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor today. Durham have stretched their tally to 227-6 from an overnight 176-3 but both teams are off again...

  18. Let's recappublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

Right, with Durham and Leicestershire taken off, and all other games either delayed by the weather or at tea, this is the perfect time to round up Sunday's happenings in the Bob Willis Trophy - or, in some cases, the lack of them.

Let's do this group by group....

  19. Play abandoned at Nottinghampublished at 16:33 British Summer Time 16 August 2020

Nottinghamshire 268-2 v Lancashire - no play Sunday

A second look by the umpires doesn't take long, and they decide that there will be no play possible on day two at Trent Bridge.

Weather permitting, Notts will resume their first innings tomorrow morning, with Ben Slater 111 not out and Joe Clarke on four.

Hard to see at the moment how either side could force a win in this one - which is good news for North group pace-setters Yorkshire and Derbyshire.

    Two in two overs.

Gavin Griffiths shapes the ball away beautifully, Gareth Harte can't cover the swing, and it's the third catch of the innings for keeper Harry Swindells.

Durham in decline but bad light, thunder, they're off again..
