Batting conditions are ideal at Headingley and Lancashire opener Alex Davies is cashing in.

The wicketkeeper punches Duanne Olivier straight down the ground and follows it up with a clip through mid-wicket for another four. Lovely stuff.

    Somerset v Gloucestershire 14-3 (target 385)

More agony for Somerset as rain returns to Taunton!

It was pretty wet earlier and the umpires didn't like the state of the outfield too much.

And it's now getting a top up with rain forecast throughout the afternoon.

Jordan Cox back at the crease for Kent after hitting the headlines for different reasons two weeks ago.

The 19-year-old's double century against Sussex broke all sorts of records but then a dozy breach of the Covid protocols saw him dropped last week.

Only 8 in the first innings here but with a start now and looking to build a good lead for the visitors this afternoon.

  16. Dominance from Essexpublished at 13:42 British Summer Time 24 August 2020

Hants v Essex 249-3 - lunch, day three

    Nick Gledhill
    BBC Essex

A morning of increasing dominance from the Essex batsmen with Sir Alastair Cook and Dan Lawrence sharing an unbroken 78 for the fourth wicket.

Cook’s 66th century has just seen him pass 24,000 first-class runs and there’s no sign of the appetite diminishing for more. Lawrence, who was stumped off a Mason Crane no-ball on two, has built on his match winning 60 at Hove with an innings of growing authority.

He will have to wait a while longer to play a test match but these runs will keep him in contention for the winter.

Tomorrow’s forecast makes a result here unlikely but Essex will strengthen their position In the group with a draw and a good haul of bonus points.

  17. Northants well placedpublished at 13:27 British Summer Time 24 August 2020

    Northants 332 v Glamorgan 259 & 2-2

    Nick Webb
    BBC Sport Wales

Glamorgan face a real struggle to get back into the game after losing two for two in 27 balls before lunch.

Northants’ lanky Zimbabwean paceman Blessing Muzarabani had Nick Selman gloving to the keeper with a climbing balk, and Brett Hutton trapped Kiran Carlson leg-before, for a single apiece.

Earlier Glamorgan seamers Marchant de Lange, Timm van der Gugten and Dan Douthwaite ran efficiently through the Northants lower order.

Acting captain Ricardo Vasconcelos made 58 but should have provided Michael Hogan with his 600th first-class wicket when he was dropped at slip on 36.

Northants are well placed to claim their first win of the season.

Durham 337-9 dec v Derbyshire 87-0 - lunch, day three

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Newcastle

It's been a decent morning for Derbyshire in their "home game" in Chester-le-Street as skipper Billy Godleman and Luis Reece have put on 87 runs.

The deficit is 250 after Durham declared overnight on 337-9, having lost 57 overs to the weather yesterday.

When Godleman reached 32 he made it to 9,000 first-class runs and he is now on 50, having got there for the 62nd time in his first-class career. His 50 came in 103 balls and included eight fours.

There was one brief scare for him on 37 when he flashed at a Paul Coughlin ball and it blasted off David Bedingham's hand at second slip. It was going like a missile at the time though.

The sun is out and the pitch looks as flat as a pancake. Perfect batting conditions.
