  1. Pak 57-4published at 12 overs

    Step on down, Sohaib Maqsood.

Fakhar Zaman played a glorious straight drive in the previous over, but this one might be ever better. He's timed it perfectly.

He picks up two more with a flick into mid-wicket. That was pretty average running from this pair, it went deep into the pocket, so three should have been on.

Here's how Saqib Mahmood picked up his third wicket, and England's fourth.

  4. Pak 51-4published at 11 overs

Fakhar Zaman looks in some touch. He just leans on this, but it absolutely races to the straight boundary.

He averages 46.14 in England. England will want to see the back of him.

That was quick from Carse, 89mph. He has good strong shoulders with a very simple action. He'll be buoyed by the way Saqib bowled this morning.

Brydon Carse is into the attack.

He starts with an 89mph yorker. Tasty.

By my calculations this team had 124 caps to its name before today - 98 of those to Ben Stokes. The XI that played Sri Lanka on Sunday had 914.

Mahmood has played a ton of Pakistan Super League cricket, he made a big impression there and clearly likes playing against Pakistanis.

  9. Pak 46-4published at 10 overs

That's the end of the powerplay.

I don't think Ben Stokes or Chris Silverwood could have asked for any more.

If it's short, Fakhar Zaman is going to put it away. He's in good touch and timing it particularly well.

  11. Pak 46-4published at 9.4 overs

    And again!

You can't bowl short at 79mph to Fakhar Zaman, Craig Overton.

Fakhar has treated both of those deliveries with absolute disdain.

  12. Pak 42-4published at 9.2 overs

Craig Overton has replaced Lewis Gregory.

He's greeted by a thumping pull to the mid-wicket fence by Fakhar Zaman. He's played some lovely shots so far.

This has been a lively start from Mahmood, he's doing everything right to stake his claim in England's ODI team.

Saqib has put the ball on a good length but there has been an element of lazy shot selection from Pakistan, particularly from Babar Azam.

  15. Pak 38-4published at 9 overs

At just 24 Saqib Mahmood looks like he's going to have a very long, and successful, England career. He's only playing his fifth ODI, but he's already changing his field, bringing a catcher into the covers.

I like that, and I reckon Eoin Morgan, who will no doubt be watching on, will like that too.

Whenever we see the Pakistan changing room they all look shocked. Discombobulated, some may say.

Daniel Johnson: Have....have England suddenly become the best sporting nation?

Andrew Bevan: Remind me which side had to replace their entire squad for this series?

  17. Pak 32-4published at 8 overs

Sohaib Maqsood, who is making his first Pakistan appearance in five years, is the new batter. I imagine he didn't think he'd be coming in in the powerplay, when he's done at six.

Shot! A bit full from Lewis Gregory and Fakhar Zaman absolutely pulverises him through mid-off.

Here's how Lewis Gregory picked up his ODI wicket.

You can understand why Shakeel reviewed it but equally it looked out. It's smart bowling from Mahmood, it's not just pace and control but he's thinking about how to get the wicket and then makes those incremental changes.

  20. wicket

    Shakeel lbw b Mahmood 5 (Pak 26-4)

    Umpire's call on height!

It is another brilliant bit of bowling from Saqib Mahmood. You've got to be spot on from round the wicket, and he is.

It's clipping the top of middle stump, and Pakistan are in absolute disarray.
