Former England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

Ben Stokes struck the right note, this is quite exciting. It's added a different type of spice to this game. We watched the cap ceremony and it's the longest one I've ever witnessed. It's all to play for and the England side is not a bad looking side, they've just never played together before.

This is the first time Ben Stokes has captained England in an ODI too, don't forget.

He took charge of the West Indies Test at the Ageas Bowl last summer, while Joe Root was on paternity leave, but this is new to him too.

It's little surprising to see Brydon Carse in today's England XI. Ben Stokes bigged him up as "an X-Factor player every team wants" when speaking to the press. He has a bit of pace.

But, the man we're going to see first up, with England bowling first is Durham's Brydon Carse.

Born in South Africa, the 25-year-old can bowl with serious pace so will be looking to get at the Pakistan batters.

Moving into the middle order, Middlesex's John Simpson will be taking the gloves. England had options with Phil Salt and Ben Duckett but have gone for the specialist keeper.

Somerset all-rounder Lewis Gregory has played eight Twenty20's for England, so does have some international experience.

We'll work our way down the England order.

Sussex opener Phil Salt will be making his England debut in any format today. He doesn't play much one-day cricket, in fact he's only played 16 in his career, but is explosive and well regarded in the Twenty20 format.

The other specialist batter is Zak Crawley. The Kent batter is no stranger to an England shirt - he's played 14 Tests now, so will be one of the more experienced players on show today.

England captain Ben Stokes at the toss: "I am not a massive wicket watcher but we've been a successful team bowling first. Just because we've got a change of personnel doesn't mean we'll change our ways.

"It's an exciting time for everyone involved at the moment. It's a strange situation to be involved in but we've got an amazing crop of talent and if something like this comes along and we can pick a team of this calibre then that shows we're in a good place.
