    Ian Bell
Former England batsman on BBC Test Match Special

It's been a brilliant partnership to watch and this is exactly how England want to play - not just survive but always fight back.

This is why Phil Salt has been picked - to play the way he plays for Sussex.

And James Vince also brings up his 50 with a boundary, punching Haris Rauf through point for four.

England's second (or third) string are on top again.

    Matthew Henry

I reckon half of the Lord’s crowd is standing to applaud Phil Salt’s half-century. He’s making some new fans.

A fortuitous way to reach a half-century but he's got there all the same. It's been a spirited, audacious knock.

  5. 50 runs

50 for Saltpublished at 13.3 overs

    Eng 101-2

Edged and, with no slips in place, it's a boundary to bring up Phil Salt's half century!

It's been an entertaining knock. Not the most fluent start but the opener then really got his eye in.

England could still collapse but I don't think the ball is going to swing much after the pounding it's taking.

  7. Eng 96-2published at 13 overs

    Very good, Rory.

It's bubbles o'clock at Lord's as a fella in the crowd has his glass filled up.

Salt is on 47 from 28, Vince has on 46 from 34. England in control.

Rory Taylor: Salt and Vince-egar playing a few crisp shots today.

  9. Eng 93-2published at 12.3 overs

Short from Faheem, Vince pulls and the fielder in the deep is in two minds - go for the catch or stop the boundary? He does neither; the ball falls short, deflects off his hands and goes for four.

Another short delivery and a top edge pull down to fine leg for back-to-back boundaries.

    Too easy for England here.

Babar’s hands could be superglued to his hips they’ve been there so often. I don’t think he’s impressed.

England bowler on Test Match Special

I'd back myself...in fact I'd even back you Daniel to have hit that ball for four.

Too short. Too wide. And James Vince isn't going to miss out on that. The glut of boundaries continues.

  13. Eng 84-2published at 12 overs

James Vince guides it down to third man and England take two.

Poor fielding or good running? Pakistan captain Babar Azam is not happy.

And he won't be too pleased with this either as Haris Rauf bowls short and wide and offers it up on a plate to James Vince. Four more.

For all their hard work earlier on, Pakistan's bowlers are not bowling to these conditions.

    Steven Finn
England bowler on Test Match Special

After the two early wickets Pakistan would have thought they'd had more opportunities to make inroads, but in their quest for those they have bowled a few more loose deliveries.

They are trying to force wickets, and that has given England scoring opportunities. This partnership has accelerated and the pressure is back on the Pakistan bowlers to stem the flow of runs.

  15. Eng 75-2published at 11 overs

Pakistan stick with Faheem, who went for four boundaries in his first over.

It's a calmer over for Pakistan with the fielders more spread out at the end of the Powerplay. Just three from it.

Pakistan bowling coach Waqar Younis is watching on from the balcony, he'd be lethal in these conditions!

Andy: Salt looks like he has all the shots but boy is he frenetic at the crease.

That is a wonderful delivery. The ball angled in slightly, and with the slope leaving the right-handed batsman, it means the ball can leave the batter a bit.

  18. Eng 72-2published at 10 overs

That's a beauty from Haris Rauf as he has the ball jumping up off the pitch and carrying through to the 'keeper.

But more wayward bowling from Pakistan as another wide delivery is sent crashing to the boundary by Salt.

  19. Postpublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 10 July 2021

Will, you've ruined it! I've been waiting for the right moment to say exactly that. I'll have to think of more salt-based puns. Erm, he's looking like a seasoned pro?
