It's raining.
Shadows are starting to form on the outfield too.
I can think of a thousand things I'd rather do than face Mark Wood normally. I can think of a million things I'd rather do than face him in this light.

It's very dark. I doubt we'd be playing without the floodlights.

Tidy start, without being threatening, from Jimmy.
Tea is at 16:15 BST today don't forget, rather than 15:40, because of some rain earlier.

England are in trouble. The initial few overs it swung, but these two have produced an exhibition on how to bat in Test cricket. Whatever opportunities they have been offered to score by England's bowlers from they have taken it.
It's not time for Joe Root.
It's time for James Anderson.
England really need their main man here.

There's a fella in the Warner Stand without any shoes, standing only in his white sports socks. Not very Lord's-like.
Moeen Ali comes back well, with just a single conceded from the final five balls of the over.
Is it time for Joe Root to have a bowl?

Great use of the feet to a delivery that wasn't a bad one from Moeen Ali. For the first time in India's innings KL Rahul decides to have a go at one. Maybe Moeen should go round the wicket for a while? It's a tough gig being a spinner, especially when you have won the toss and bowled first.
First boundary for KL Rahul as he takes a leisurely stroll down the pitch and plants Moeen Ali over long-off for six.
Lovely shot.

I'm so (depressingly) confident that England won't win a single Test in this series, I'll eat a bowl of olives every night for a week if they do. I hate olives.

Joe Root has gone through all his options, changed all his bowlers up, and it's not happening at the moment. England just need to hang in there and be patient. Sometimes you just have to take your hat off to the opposition and say 'well played'.
In our pre-match data pack that we get sent by CricViz it says that the team bowling first have won 18% of the Tests at Lord's since 2010, with the batting team winning 59%. England are going to have to buck a trend to win this game.
AN APPEAL! An actual appeal! We haven't had too many of those today. Sam Curran goes round the wicket, and is slightly fuller, and the ball hits Rohit Sharma on the pad as he looks to flick through the leg side. England wisely opt against a review, with the ball going well down the leg side.

If India had won the toss and batted first there would be much less scrutiny on Joe Root and his decision.
Given even conditions the tendency is to bat first, but you have to have a definite reason to bowl first. This morning there definitely was. There is definitely enough there to work with as the bowling side, although Lord's is not a hugely known as a swinging ground.
Just a couple of singles from Moeen Ali's sixth over. He's bowled with decent control so far, conceding just 13, but he hasn't looked very threatening.
That's so slight on Moeen, the pitch is offering him absolutely nothing, as you would expect on day one of a Test match in England.
Welcome back to Test cricket Moeen Ali...

I'm at the back of the Warner Stand, an area at the back of the seats where spectators gather like they are at the world's best beer garden. Mostly men, mostly of a certain age, mostly in MCC jackets and ties. If you want to know something about the attention to detail, the bottles of wine sold at the bar even carry the MCC logo.
