Even before injuries, Joe Root and Chris Silverwood had much to pontificate before this Test.

A recall for Moeen Ali? Haseeb Hameed to return to open the batting? Michael Vaughan wanted to send an SOS to Dawid Malan while Phil Tufnell felt the likes of Dom Sibley and Zak Crawley deserved another crack.

We'll have the team news shortly.

  2. England to decide on Andersonpublished at 10:44 British Summer Time 12 August 2021

England's other big fitness concern is James Anderson, who is struggling with a quad muscle injury.

He was warming up on the outfield earlier and seemed fairly content bowling out in the middle, so might have done enough.

Although we all remember what happened to Anderson in the Ashes in 2019, when he bowled just four overs in the first Test after coming into the match with a calf injury. Nobody will want a repeat of that.

The skies around St John's Wood are grey and overcast but the groundstaff at Lord's are beginning to take the covers off.

We're hearing the toss will be at 10:50 BST and play will begin at 11:15.

  5. Broad misses rest of seriespublished at 10:34 British Summer Time 12 August 2021

A blow for England when it emerged that fast bowler Stuart Broad will miss the remainder of the Test series against India because of a calf tear.

Broad was initially ruled out of the second Test but a scan revealed a tear to his right calf.

    The 35-year-old, England's second-highest Test wicket-taker, would have played his 150th Test at Lord's.

  6. Rain delays tosspublished at 10:32 British Summer Time 12 August 2021

A smidgen of rain around at Lord's so the covers are on and unfortunately the toss has been delayed.

The forecast for today and the next five days looks fairly good, though, so I think we will be under way very soon.

In the meantime, England have had some selection issues to contend with.

Morning Richie, morning Tony, morning everyone...

The first day of the Lord's Test is always something special, one of the marquee days in the British sporting calendar and something to be savoured.

After a washout at Trent Bridge in the first Test between England and India the weather, on the whole, looks much better for the second Test.

Unlike the New Zealand Test at HQ earlier in the summer, this one will be played in front of a capacity crowd.

    It should be a cracker.
