Ind 111-0published at 38 overs
It genuinely feels like Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are batting on different pitches or in different different conditions.
Sam Curran gets Rahul pressing forward, looking to defend, and beats the outside edge.
Rahul 127*, Rahane 1*
Two wickets for Anderson
Rohit 83, Kohli 42
Openers Rohit & Rahul add 126

If Rohi and Rahul reach 129 it will be the highest Test opening stand by a touring side against England in England after they have been asked to bat first.
A bit of excitement!
KL Rahul looks to drive, and the ball just misses the outside edge. He slightly over balances too, but Jos Buttler fails to collect cleanly for any potential stumping opportunity anyway.
England are ready to go again, but the India openers twice delay them.
Joe Root stands at slip, tapping the watch on his wrist, in the direction of the umpire. England don't want to lose more World Test Championship points, or be fined, for a slow over rate.

It's bit of the tortoise and the hare from India with KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma. England need to create a little bit of jeopardy with Moeen Ali because he can take wickets, but India just seem happy to milk the singles. You have to earn the right to milk those singles first.

This is now Rohit Sharma's highest score in Tests outside of India.
Rohit 81, Rahul 18
Another slice of fortune for Rohit Sharma as he again inside edges past his stumps. That's twice he's done that, to go with the top edge away for six. If you're an England fan you can cling onto the fact he's used three of his lives then...
That will be drinks. Joe Root probably needs a strong one.

I really don't understand Joe Root's thinking. We have a man halfway to the long-on boundary to tempt the Indians to hit over the top, then the second they do we move the man all the way back to the boundary. Root is a great batsman but his captaincy leaves a lot to be desired...

It's the first hundred opening stand against England in England since 2016. It's 35 tests since Sri Lanka managed it with Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva. It's also only the second century opening stand by India since 1979.
England are getting creative, funky, desperate (delete as you feel necessary) for Rohit Sharma.
They've got a short mid-on, just off the edge of the pitch, about three or four yards infront of the non-striker.
It doesn't stop the opener flicking past for a single.

India have really applied themselves and been up for the challenge. Rohit Sharma has scored fluently but KL Rahul has played his part. India will be looking for that throughout the order, building partnerships all the way through the order.
Rohit Sharma has just looked in complete control so far. He moves to 78 with a couple and a pulled single down to the fine leg. It only feels like 15 or 20 minutes ago he moved to his 50.
KL Rahul is still being watchful at the other end, as he blocks out two deliveries to be 16 off 92 balls.
Rohit. Imperious.
Really good cricket from Rohit Sharma,
The aggressive shot down the ground brought away a field change from England, and in turn leaves gaps for Rohit to work a couple through the covers and a single down the ground to bring up the 100 partnership.
It has been a textbook example of how to open the batting in England.

Rohit Sharma is the kind of player with a good range of shots and confidence to really hurt England now that he is properly in.
Slapped!
Rohit Sharma takes one step down the pitch and plants Moeen Ali over mid-on for a one-bounce four.
Dismissive.

I think we're all missing the point re the toss. Yes, not taking any wickets by now having decided to bowl isn't ideal. But can you imagine England battingon such a morning?! Maybe India 90-0 is better than England being 90-5...

The thing you need to ask yourself is what position England would be in right now if we were forced to bat first? My guess would be 42-4 (and that's being optimistic).

Where are England going to get a wicket from? There is a lot going through a captain's mind when you win the toss and bowl first and it's 93 for no wicket.
Tidier from Sam Curran, with just a single added by Rohit Sharma.
There is the tiniest bit of seam movement for him, but in all honesty the ball is doing very little.
I wonder what Joe Root is thinking...
Mark Ramprakash

A good tidy start from Moeen Ali and you almost sense the script is written for him to get the breakthrough for England. I did wonder if he should bowl from the Pavilion End. John Emburey enjoyed a lot of success from there.
