England haven't bowled badly - they have bowled the right length. They probably haven't got the movement that they expected. They have just played against two batters that so far have played great.

  2. Ind 38-0published at 16.0 overs

In the slips, Joe Root claps his hands encouraging James Anderson before folding his arms. Jonny Bairstow gnaws and nibbles at his fingernails.

England getting a little twitchy they are not on the board having won the toss and elected to bowl.

It was a really absorbing first hour.

England will feel they have bowled in a disciplined manner, but they've not quite had the rub of the green.

I did think the pitch looked a little bit slower when I looked at this morning, and the Indians have batted in a disciplined manner and been able to get forward and that is crucial. They are looking very calm and they have got their team a very solid platform.

Rohit Sharma is motoring along now.

  10. Ind 38-0published at 14.5 overs

Back-to-back boundaries for Rohit Sharma to boost the India total.

A picture of calm Rohit punches Sam Curran through point for four. Then he opens up his stance ever so slightly and elegantly clips one of his legs.

Classy stuff from the India opener

That was a good delivery, that's why Sam Curran is in the side. Rohit Sharma wasn't sure if the ball was swinging away or in. It was just a really good line.

  12. Ind 30-0published at 14.2 overs

Sam Curran drops one a little full and wide and Rohit Sharma capitalises with clinical drive through point to the boundary for four.

A ball later, however, Curran draws an edge from Rohit's bat whistles just wide of Jonny Bairstow in the fourth and final slip position.

    That was close.

  13. Ind 22-0published at 13.5 overs

The floodlights at Lord's illuminating play at Lord's. Been very watchful stuff from India's openers.

James Anderson inadvertently angles one across Rohit Sharma who nudges it away for a single down to fine leg.

England have rolled the dice bowling first. If they don't pick up a few before lunch then it will have backfired.

That's the first boundary of the innings.

  16. Ind 18-0published at 12.5 overs

Sam Curran has largely bowled good disciplined lines, but the penultimate ball of his third over gives India a boundary.

The left-arm seamer swings a delivery into the pads of Rohit Sharma, but the extra movement allows the India opener to elegantly time a leg glance for four.

We have seen KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma lighting up the IPL, but here they are battling it out.

  18. Ind 13-0published at 11.2 overs

James Anderson runs his hands through his hair ruefully as he walks back to his mark following an unsuccessful appeal after the ball struck Rohit Sharma on the pad.

It certainly hit Rohit in line but it was a touch short and the ball looked to be going over the stumps.

This is India's fifth innings of the summer. They haven't lost a wicket inside the first 10 overs of any of those.

This is their lowest score after 10 overs since 2013.

  20. Ind 13-0published at 11 overs

Sam Curran's distinctive bleached blond Gazza-esque cropped hair is like a beacon in the Lord's gloom as he busily attacks the crease. Rohit Sharma almost topples over himself with a clip through backward square but he is able to keep the ball down. A couple of singles milked by India off that over.
