It has been a steady start from England. They have bowled a fullish length and found some movement, but the India openers have been up to it. The pitch looks fairly easy paced.
The cogs are whirring in Ollie Robinson's mind. KL Rahul with an inside edge on to his pad and Joe Root responds by ushering Haseeb Hameed into short leg.
Hameed, his long hair peeping through the helmet, appears to have a fair bit of tape on his fingers too.

There is not a great deal of substance at the bottom of the India order. From six wickets down India could easily be all out in four or five overs, and that isn't giving Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja a platform to get a big score.
You would say the same about England, though. Number eight is such a key position in Test cricket.
Joe Root gives the ball a dry and polish on the cuff of his shirt. Sam Curran's left-arm seam offering a different challenge for India's openers, who had just started to settle.
He beats Rohit Sharma's bat first up, but the India opener is able to feel bat on ball a few times.

That is Anderson's seventh opening spell of the summer. He has yet to take a wicket in one of those spells.
Change of bowling by Joe Root as Jimmy Anderson is replaced by Sam Curran at the Nursery End.

That is the first one that we've seen go off the edge today.
The Lord's murmur is momentarily shattered by a gasp as Ollie Robinson finds the edge of KL Rahul's bat. The ball lands just short of Dom Sibley at second slip.
That was close. England probing.

Stoic Test batting from India thus far. Both openers waiting patiently for anything on their pads to clip away.
James Anderson has a pensive expression as he walks back to his mark. His fourth ball of the over nips off the pitch, but is calmly left by Rohit Sharma.
Rohit absolutely knows where his off stump is. In fact, if it was a game of pin the donkey tail on the off stump blindfolded he'd win hands down.

That was just a really interesting conversation taking place across about 40 yards. Joe Root, at slip, signalled to Mark Wood at mid-off to ask if Ollie Robinson wanted a short leg in place. Because he couldn't shout, Root was making the universal short leg symbol - flashing his hand across his face as if he was putting a helmet on. Wood had a word with Robinson, who must have declined, because Wood held out his hands as if to say 'not yet'.
Ollie Robinson with pursed lips as he plots on how to get this first breakthrough. He draws KL Rahul into playing and missing at one which lifts off the pitch. Muted gasps from the Lord's crowd.

You just get the feeling that if England get a breakthrough there could be a little cluster because of the conditions.
India are being very watchful at the moment.

The Indian team management would have got confidence from the way that tail batted in the first Test, but it looks thin on batting at the bottom.
A dab into the off side and KL Rahul sets off for a quick single. A ball later and James Anderson strays on to Rohit Sharma's pads and he clips it for two.
Rohit Sharma shows the maker's name to Ollie Robinson. He's feeling bat on ball a couple of times an over to ease himself into the game, but that will encourage the England slips.
Another maiden over.
Michael Vaughan
Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special
This first session is really, really important for England.
They will talk about the positives from Trent Bridge and that they could have won, but I didn't have that in my equation. I thought they got away with it. It would have required an incredible spell, catches or run-outs for them to win.
Over the course of the five days Joe Root was exceptional and James Anderson and Ollie Robinson were very good, but there wasn't much substance from anyone else.

James Anderson has only made India play at four of his 12 deliveries so far.
The majority of England's slip cordon are sporting cable knit sleeveless jumpers. The sun is just peeping out from the clouds now.
James Anderson strikes KL Rahul high on the pad and turns to offer an appeal, tentatively backed up by the slips, but Joe Root opts to take it no further.
It struck the India opener outside the line. Height may have been an issue also.
