That was one like the coach glances up in the morning.

It has been a magnificent performance by the England bowlers. It is now up to the batters. It is exactly what England needed. They have started the Test brilliantly.

  2. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 40.4 overs

Siraj c Root b Overton 3 (Ind 78 all out)

INDIA ARE SKITTLED OUT FOR 78... YES, SEVENTY EIGHT!

Craig Overton has his third wicket. Mohammed Siraj is backing away to the leg side, the bowler follows him and Siraj is cramped for space. The ball comes off the bat and lands safely in the hands of Joe Root at slip.

An unbelievable session and a half for England.

Here's how Craig Overton dismissed Rohit Sharma and Mohammed Shami with successive balls...

  4. Ind 78-9published at 40 overs

Siraj digs out a Curran yorker as the 40th over of the day comes to an end. Surely England just need to carry on with that line outside off?

For the first time today England have started to change. They have India 78-9, they don't need to change at all.

  6. Ind 78-9published at 39.3 overs

Ishant Sharma plays a solid push through point. The chase is on for Haseeb Hameed, running from point, and he does well to stop the boundary.

Siraj swings and misses, before toe-ending one to mid-off for a single.

That was a tough one. It went sharp.

I suspect both of these two will give themselves space. They won't be getting in line.

  9. Ind 74-9published at 39 overs

Dropped chance? A bit harsh, maybe. Sharma steps to his left to make some space and unleashes a wild swing, the ball balloons up towards slips and Bairstow, jumping and stretching, can only manage a fingertip.

The question is: when England get in to bat can they dominate or will it be another difficult day?

  11. Ind 73-9published at 38.3 overs

An outside edge brings Ishant Sharma four streaky runs. Overton appeals for lbw but the batsman is well outside the line, and it's also pretty high.

That was a very long over with the hat-trick balls, reviews and wickets.

  13. Ind 69-9published at 38 overs

Siraj mishits down the ground for two to end the over.

My word. This has been an incredible session of cricket. Astonishing.

We've just seen a hat-trick of DRS reviews in favour of Alex Wharf, on his Test debut.

It didn't feel out. There was a huge inside edge.

  16. Not outpublished at 37.4 overs

    Ind 67-9

As expected. Not out. No hat-trick for Curran. But it matters not. England are absolutely bossing it in Headingley.

  17. England reviewpublished at 14:43 British Summer Time 25 August 2021

Ahhhh! Now this is DEFINITELY a review in hope. Mohammed Siraj plays onto his pads. It's definitely bat first but Root gives into pressure from the crowd and reviews at the last second.

Mohammed Siraj doesn't look even remotely prepared for this. Just 10 minutes ago India were five down and I bet he was in his training kit.

Credit to England. They just keep coming and coming. They have forced the India batters to play.

IT'S HITTING LEG STUMP ON THE FULL! BUMRAH GOES FOR A GOLDEN DUCK.

Sam Curran is now on a hat-trick! What on earth are we watching here?!
