On closer inspection, what I thought were lifeguards are actually a group of ducks. There are also some crayons, fruit and a group of wrestlers. It's the sort of day where the right fancy dress will do a job in keeping you warm. The lads who have come as characters from Scooby Doo, complete with mini skirts, will need a beer jacket later.

After conceding two boundaries, Siraj straightens his line and Malan defends the remainder of the over.

That is a poor delivery again. It is short and wide and that is what Dawid Malan thrives on.

India can't afford these loose deliveries and have had to add a deep point fielder now.

Four! Mohammed Siraj bowls short and wide, Malan is on his toes and sends the ball crashing to the boundary.

And again! Almost a carbon copy. It is woeful bowling from Siraj.

That was a better over - they are trying something else against Haseeb Hameed now at least. India haven't tried enough against Hameed I don't think. Credit to him, though.

This is an intriguing battle now. Jasprit Bumrah has been India's best bowler in this Test so far, but Haseeb Hameed has looked so composed.

Does Asher's mum not have a say?

Hameed plays away from his body but pulls his bat away in time. He'll be eager to get through to the interval.

Re. Tim in Crewe - In a chat yesterday, a mate promised to rename his newborn Haseeb if the man himself goes on to ton up. Only 30 runs to go before baby Asher gets a new name!

Tim, sometimes in life you just have to let things go.

We've all had a James comes and go at some point in our lives. I suggest you be open-minded.

These are weak applications thus far. James has an excellent knowledge of cricket and knows a lot about sport in general. I've seen nothing which matches these credentials. Also, James in Basingstoke still won't answer the phone!

    Tim in Crewe.

Mohammed Shami has his head in his hands! He has been the pick of the India bowlers this morning.

The ball nips back in, Malan leaves and it sails over the top of the stumps. Even Malan makes a face to suggest it was closer than he anticipated.

Hi Tim, The last time I went to a Test match, Ben Stokes, Headingley final day. You won't get better luck than that sat beside you.

Tim, I'll happily get the tattoo and also have the ticket....

India have been more disciplined so far than they were yesterday - apart from Ishant Sharma who is still struggling for rhythm. But so far, so good - it won't be easy, it still looks good for batting but Shami has bowled beautifully and looked to be much more attacking.

England have to be patient. There will be times where they can score quickly, and times where the ball is swinging and runs will dry up.

Timmy boy, you don't need James. You can easily buy new friends.

Hameed is looking ever so comfortable back in the England whites. Six decent deliveries from Bumrah which Hameed defends and leaves. Time for drinks.

    Joe, Ilminster

Hi Tim from Crewe. I would love to go with you to the third day if James can't make it.

Tell Tim in Crewe I will happily step in on James' behalf to watch the Test.

When England put on a solid opening partnership, that middle order of Bairstow, Buttler and Ali looks very formidable all of a sudden.
