Umpire's call?
Jonny Bairstow has been struck on the pad by an angled delivery from Umesh Yadav. It's given not out on the field. India debate it, then Virat Kohli calls for a review.
Jonny Bairstow is the new man in and he spoke to the media just before play. He acknowledged with England skipper Joe Root already out someone else will have to step up.
He said: "It's a great chance for the batters. It's going to be a great, day. Hopefully one where we can go out and bat the morning session, see where we are at lunch and then kick on.
"Joe is in amazing form at the moment but today is going to be a day for the rest fo us to stand up. It's a slightly different wicket to a traditional pitch at The Oval.
"We need to get through that first hour when we restart with the overheads and see how the pitch plays. Once that happens it's about applying ourselves and someone making that match-winning contribution."

It's a loose shot. It wasn't really a good delivery by Yadav but a great catch by Rohit Sharma. Malan had been looking solid in this innings.
Malan c Sharma b Yadav 31
Umesh Yadav round the wicket to Dawid Malan and the left-hander pokes his bat at a delivery which he probably could have left alone. Has the change of angle done for him? The edge goes through to the cordon and Rohit Sharma takes a superb diving catch at second slip.
A nervous waggle of the bat from Ollie Pope as he is beaten by Jasprit Bumrah, who is bowling with real menace this morning, outside off stump.
Pope has looked comfortable against Umesh Yadav but this is a different challenge.
Two balls later Pope manages to time a push a fuller ball from Bumrah through the covers but a brilliant piece of fielding from Mohammed Siraj prevents the boundary. Bumrah applauds his India team-mate.

John Petrie: Pope is a player you want to succeed because he is such a pleasure to watch.
Umesh Yadav attempts to generate a bit of bounce and the ball rises on Dawid Malan, but the England left-hander watches it right under his nostils and nudges it off his hips for a single.
That brings Ollie Pope on strike and he plays the kind of shot that will fill him, and England supporters, with confidence as he punches Yadav through the covers for three runs.

Nice attacking field from India. Three slips and a gully and just one fielder in front of square on the off side, so trying to entice Pope into playing that cover drive.
Ollie Pope is somewhat fidgety. There's definitely a few butterflies there. Jasprit Burmah is probing away outside the off-stump with that mechanical clunking action of his - almost as if RoboCop was a fast bowler. Bowl fast, take wickets, uphold the law.
Pope is watchful, though. He certainly knows where his off stump is and judges when to play, and when to leave, well thus far.

This is Ollie Pope's 20th Test, but the first time he's played on his home ground of The Oval. He's still only 23.
A trumpeter at The Oval played a rendition of 'happy birthday' to Dawid Malan earlier. He's 33 today.
He gets his first boundary of the day after Umesh Yadav bowls a little too straight and the left-hander times it beautifully off his pads for four.
A few more presents from the India attack won't go amiss today.

Jon Gatward: I think we all know who’s at fault for Overton’s wicket. Jambarrel and Matthew from Dunfermline, take a bow for the double barrelled jinx.
Jasprit Bumrah beats a defensive push from Ollie Pope with a superb angled delivery which misses his off stump by a matter of inches.
To settle himself Pope strolls forward after the delivery, gives the pitch a prod and remarks his guard.
The final ball of the over Bumrah is a bit straighter and this time Pope shows him the maker's name. Solid.

That was Umesh Yadav's 150th wicket in Test cricket.
In his last 22 Tests since the Australia series in February 2017 he has taken 79 wickets at average of 22. Prior to that in 27 Tests he had 71 at an average of just under 39, so a huge improvement.

Now seen two batsmen get out playing the cut, might it be an idea to put that shot away if the bounce is a touch indifferent?

Ollie Pope off the mark from his first ball from Umesh Yadav, nudging one away through mid-wicket.
Mohammed Siraj was just brought on for the one over to enable a change of ends so Jasprit Bumrah is into the attack.

You can waste a lot of energy getting the nightwatchman out, so that is an important wicket for India.
