    Target 368

I've had to tell myself to settle down after that Hameed drive. England have faced 25 overs and have not lost a wicket. I don't think there was anyone tweeting us to predict that scenario a couple of hours ago.

He's never going to crunch one is Hameed!

Haseeb Hameed drives perfectly through the covers for four! Oh that's a shot.

Jadeja looks off, he's not hitting his lines. Too full, too straight.

  5. Eng 54-0published at 24 overs

I like that from Totum. Anyone planning similar?

"There's always trouble," says Tuffers on TMS like a wise old man stroking his chin in a movie who has seen it all before. Jadeja is bowling either too short or too full and Burns can just knock it away with bat or body.

I mentioned him earlier and we've just seen a shot of Ravichandran Ashwin in his shorts and sliders sat on his own outside the dressing room. India are missing him, aren't they?

Is anyone reading this at The Oval? If so, can they find whoever is doing a Marnus Labuschagne 'no run' after every ball and have a word?

Can we possibly have some perspective? 368 to win would be the 10th highest successful run chase in a Test match ... ever. It would also be England's highest. I'm not sure how many times in my life I've seen this blind optimism that England will chase 350/400 to win, but it's a lot. And it NEVER HAPPENS. It's virtually impossible. Do we really think that England and their one-man batting line-up can do what so many others have failed to do? Get a grip.

    Burns 24, Hameed 23

A change to the pace of Mohammed Siraj doesn't change India's fortunes. This pitch is as flat as a two-week old bottle of pop.

Jadeja is not bowling very well, he is very flat, spearing it in. As a left armer you have to have a bit if guile.

A punch of gloves. A lengthy round of applause from the crowd. That's the fifty partnership.

Another over of Jadeja's spin goes by - it includes another full toss - and the figure of Ravichandran Ashwin looms so large I think I can see him from my flat.

Errrm. I really want to say yes to that last text but I'm not sure.

Hameed, batting in watery evening sunshine now, comes forward and calmly plays a few more defensive strokes to Bumrah.
