Just a little reminder that England lost the toss this morning...

That is an absolutely woeful, and quite frankly embarrassing, batting display by Sri Lanka.

That is a ghastly shot to end a ghastly innings.

I suspect Bess will not get an easier five-wicket haul.

    Hasaranga b Bess 19 (SL 135)

Oh, wow! Another woeful shot but Dom Bess has five wickets.

To be fair to Wanindu Hasaranga he is just trying to attack to accumulate some runs but no, no, no. It is awful. It's a Twenty20 shot as he gets outside the line of off stump and tries to reverse sweep, misses it completely and it hits middle stump.

That is the lowest first-innings total ever at Galle. Awful from Sri Lanka.

That was out for me. I think the third umpire has got it wrong.

He may have given a bit of benefit to the batsman there. The third umpire didn't really get the perfect camera shot.

  6. SL 135-9published at 46 overs

It's a tricky one that run out. The dive was so early that I think his bat has bounced up before it's got home, and when Jos Buttler whips the bails off I don't think his bat has ever been grounded.

Difficult one, but the umpire didn't even really mention that.

This would just about sum up Sri Lanka's day.

  8. Not outpublished at 08:55 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2021

Hmmmm. I'm not convinced the third umpire has got that right to be honest.

It's a tricky one and I don't think he was sure either way so he's given the batsman the benefit of the doubt.

I reckon it is out. I think the bat is in the air.

I think his bat is up in the air here...

I think he is OK but it is a question of when the bail comes off.

The third umpire is asking for split screens, rocking and rolling.

    Cricket is back.

It's one of them that is one frame either way.

All we need now is a run-out off a no-ball.

A maiden for Dom Bess. Mickey Arthur looks absolutely exasperated on the Sri Lanka balcony.

What day is this going to end on?

England haven't bowled badly but they've not bowled perfectly either. Sri Lanka have gone down to some bad shots.

  20. SL 130-9published at 44 overs

One thing I will say is England have had a fair bit of luck today - with Dom Bess' drag down, the deflection off Jonny Bairstow, that run out.

In a massive year of cricket with nine Tests against India, a T20 World Cup and an Ashes tour I hope England aren't using up all their luck on their first day of cricket in 2021.
