Former England spinner on BBC Test Match Special

What an amazing innings this is. It was one of the shots of the day and Leach thrusts out a hand, it flicks his nail and goes onto the stumps.

It am flabbergasted. I am so glad I came.

  2. wicket

Embuldeniya run out (Leach) 0 (SL 130-9)

    Out by a mile.

There's a clear deflection from Jack Leach and Lasith Embuldeniya is well short of this ground.

He's miles out if Leach has his hand on it.

  4. Umpire reviewpublished at 08:46 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2021

    Surely not?

Jack Leach thinks he's got a finger on a straight drive to run Lasith Embuldeniya out at the non-striker's end.

When your luck is out, your luck is out.

    Phil Tufnell

Sri Lanka look a bit punchdrunk, don't they? They look a bit confused. One of the poorest displays I've seen for a long time. Everything seems to have imploded a little bit for Sri Lanka.

  6. SL 130-8published at 43.1 overs

That's a nice shot from Wanindu Hasaranga as he goes into out and drives over the covers for four.

  7. 'One of the worst batting displays'published at 08:42 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2021

    Michael Vaughan
Former England captain on BBC Test Match Special

This is one of the worst batting displays I've ever seen. There's no way to describe that other than that is very poor. He's clearly not concentrating - to miss that ball, it's just a straight one.

That is a terrible shot! He's yorked himself!

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 42.5 overs

    D Perera b Bess 0 (SL 126-8)

That is an absolute beauty and Dom Bess has four wickets.

You can tell the spinners' confidence has rocketed with the three wickets as he gives this one a bit more flight, and there's plenty of dip and curve as it goes in between Dilruwan Perera's bat and pad and cannons into the stumps.

It's a fantastic assist, isn't it? You'd get points for that in Fantasy Football.

Bairstow's going to go off and receive some further treatment/checks.

Olly Stone has come on as sub fielder.

Jonny Bairstow is just having a bit of treatment on his foot after taking that blow.

    He's hobbling around.

Dom Bess hasn't bowled well at all and he's got 3-30!

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 42.3 overs

    Shanaka c Buttler b Bess 23 (SL 126-7)

    Yep, out!

That is an absolutely disgusting way to get out.

England are having all the luck at the moment.

The ball has gone straight in to Bairstow's left heel and then lobbed, as gently as you like, to Jos Buttler. That is an absolutely grotesque way to get out.

England are convinced they've got their man - everything is going wrong for the Sri Lankans!

  18. Umpire reviewpublished at 42.3 overs

    Oh wow, this is unfortunate!

England think they've got Dasun Shanaka out caught but that doesn't tell half the story.

He gets down and sweeps, and Jonny Bairstow at short leg, turns to turn out the way, but it cannons into his boot, rolls up his back and is grateful grasped by Jos Buttler.

They just want to check it didn't hit Bairstow's helmet.

  19. SL 126-6published at 42 overs

    Run-rate 3.00

Good shot! Dasun Shanaka is playing a good hand here as he gets down on one knee again and slaps away a sweep.

England have worked out that is his one release shot though and have put a man out now. How does Shanaka respond?
