It's a bit like a lucky dip with Dom Bess at the moment. You don't quite know what's going to come out.
He starts with a big full toss, then finds his length, before dropping short and being driven on the back foot again.
It may not be long before Joe Root turns to himself, or has a look at Dan Lawrence's leggies.

Wacky trophy: proud winner the Association of Beverage-Running Aficionados (ABRA) bi-monthly race, involving running up a hill in Bristol tied to four people purchasing miscellaneous drinks and snacks from unsuspecting bars without breaking rank, as fast as you can of course.

Three singles from Jack Leach's second over.
England are going to have to dig in and be patient here by the look of things. They've struggled to find the extravagant spin that the hosts were finding yesterday/this morning so far.

Dan Dexter: You can't get much bigger than NHL's Stanley Cup!
At this stage in their first innings Sri Lanka had already lost three wickets so coach Mickey Arthur will be much happier in the changing room.
Although this session could do with a bit of a Mickey Arthur breakdown, a la yesterday. It is pretty tepid.

Luke Reading: Surely this trophy has to be up there?

Sri Lanka's first innings was a comedy of errors. England will be expecting more resistance for sure.

Tidy start from Jack Leach with just a single added.
He had three close fielders - Joe Root at slip, and a leg gully and short leg. Root is backing Leach more than Bess it seems.
After two overs Mark Wood is replaced by the left-arm spin of Jack Leach.
He was pretty good in the first innings and probably didn't get the rewards he deserved.

Simon Watt: The A-League trophy here in Australia is (un)affectionately known amongst fans as the toilet seat.

Almost for Dom Bess! Kusal Perera lunges forward, looking to defend, and can only edge onto his pad.
But then Bess drops too short, allowing both openers to drive to the deep cover fielder.
Joe Root, at slip, is the only close fielder around the bat already. Not much support in there for Bess.

That's good from Stuart Broad at mid-off. He must be knackered about his spell, in this heat, but he does well to get down and across and restrict Lahiru Thirimanne to single.
Craig Overton, one of England's many reserves in Sri Lanka, is on the field.

That will delight England, especially this new regime. There is the proof in the pudding.

Test Match Special statistician
This is the third successive Test in which England have had a lead of 200 on first innings. Before that, England hadn't had a lead of 200 away from home since 2013 - and now they have three in a row.
Better from Dom Bess as he twirls down a maiden.
He took 5-30 in the first innings, but the challenge in this innings, ahead of a huge tour of India, is undoubtedly to be more consistent with his line and length.
He was pretty ragged in the first innings, and at times in the summer.

First boundary for Lahiru Thirimanne as he flicks through mid-wicket beautifully.
The birds, almost seagull like, have just started chirping outside my house. It feels cold today.
Double change for England as Mark Wood replaces Stuart Broad.
