Just a single comes from Joe Root's third over.

I'll be honest, it'll be more of a surprise if England take a wicket at the moment, than if they don't.

This is Sri Lanka's sixth Test of this 2020-21 season. It is the first time their openers have lasted past 10 overs.

Kusal Perera, whose shirt is absolutely soaking wet, is doing well here. He's up to 26 off 72 balls - he's having to reign in his natural attacking instincts.

Mark Wood needs to be careful in the outfield, though. He gets across well to stop a sweep from Perera, but his knee takes a chunk out of the ground. Those can be nasty.

Root is playing around with his pace a little bit. One really kicked and spun. There was a bit of energy in his action.

I hope to see more of that from Bess. He has been inconsistent.

Joe Root continues and he's found the most spin so far as he rips a couple past the outside edge.

It would be around now that he'd start looking around the outfield for Jofra Archer to run in hard.

Sri Lanka, quietly, are showing some resistance, which takes a lot of work when you've had a tough few days in the field.

After that first ball that spun, nothing really to report from Jack Leach's first over at the new end.

England could do with some inspiration.

  10. SL 39-0published at 19.1 overs

It is a change of ends for Jack Leach as he replaces Dom Bess.

He immediately lands one in the footholes and gets a bit of spin and bounce.

Because Joe Root is bowling quite quickly, any width means it's easy to run away with the extra pace.

  12. SL 39-0published at 19 overs

    Trail by 247

Joe Root starts too short, and wide, and it allows Kusal Perera to cut away. Mark Wood, diving across the soft, spongey outfield, does well to restrict them to a couple.

    Five from Root's first.

Joe Root, and his golden arm, are coming on.

Is he coming on for a proper spell? Or to allow Jack Leach and Dom Bess to swap ends?

There's a bit of rough that may work nicely for Leach at the other end.

    Almost!

Dom Bess pushes one through slightly quicker and Lahiru Thirimanne tries to cut away and misses.

That was a better, more consistent, over from Bess.

Dom Bess will continue after drinks.

He has only conceded eight from his five overs to be fair, but he hasn't been able to build up any pressure.

Spin bowling is all about rhythm, so there must be a slight little kink that is stopping the rhythm. It could also be sweat on the hands.

    "Caaaatch!"

There are a few yelps from the England fielders as Kusal Perera works Jack Leach round the corner, but it was just out the reach of Dom Sibley at leg gully.

That'll be drinks. Sri Lanka will be delighted.
