Moeen's shirt is untucked. He spins the ball between his hands then sees Ashwin clip India to 200. Smattering of applause from Chennai. If you can get in, there are runs to be scored. I just wonder how many England batsmen will get in.

Playing at Warkworth in Northumberland, our game was stopped a few times due to a cow being in a very noisy labour behind the bowlers arm.

For what it's worth, I agree with Sir Chef on the comparisons of the Foakes/Buttler batting. Foakes seems more likely to regularly chip in with 30s and 40s, whereas Buttler, though prone to a barren run, can also play the matchwinners.

Ben Stokes has been doing a handstand during the drinks break. Any chance he can have a bowl instead?

Foakes' slight weakness is on and around off stump - you feel as though you can nick him off. I don't think Foakes quite has that ability to score that match-winning 150, and that's what Buttler brings.

Foakes has a first class average of nearly 40, compared to Jos Buttler's which is down around 33, 34. The idea that he's a specialist 'keeper takes away from the fact that he's very good with the bat as well.

I've just been reminded that Ben Foakes' father, Peter, was a Premier League referee. There's something in there about keepers, gamekeeper, keeping things in check, but I can't quite nail it. Time for a drink.

Family legend: In the 1920s, my great-uncle was playing cricket (for Forest Hill, I believe) when a ball bounced up and hit him in the face, causing his glass eye to fall out. The bowler was said to have promptly fainted. Uncle used to say he lost his eye during the war but in fact he lost it when he stood on a garden rake - sometime between 1914 and 1918. My grandfather also played for Forest Hill and witnessed the incident, so it must be true!

Olly Stone is round the wicket. He fancies a career in the media after he finishes playing and has done some work at BBC Radio Norfolk. He was asked if he could be England's answer to Alan Partridge. Confession time. I've never watch Partridge.

Kohli and Ashwin are desperate to pile on the pain for England, and they're doing just that. England need to find something from somewhere.

A sweet backfoot punch from Kohli earns him a couple off Leach. This is painful for England. The match has gone, but they are having misery heaped on. India have all the time in the world.

Five wickets, now a half-century. Ravichandran Ashwin is having a superb game. He reaches the milestone by backing off and flat-batting Olly Stone to cover for four. A fifty in only 64 balls - he's scored more fluently than anyone in this innings.

Whilst playing in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, a couple of years ago, play was halted for a stray kneecap. One of the home batsmen attempted a pull shot, got his spikes stuck in the crease and left his knee behind whilst swivelling round to play the shot. I had no idea a kneecap had such ambition to explore new places.

This the Test summed up in two deliveries. Jack Leach bowls an absolute snorter, ripping and fizzing past Ashwin's prod. However, he can't follow it up and the next ball is short, cut for four by Ashwin, who is on 44. On the dust bowl, England's spinners haven't been able to apply the same pressure as consistently as India.

For England to have those early opportunities to take wickets and then to have that door shut on you, that is so draining as a bowler, a fielder or a captain. This partnership is just grinding them down.

The lesser-spotted Olly Stone is cranked up, asked to bowl only his third over of the innings. Despite the extra pace, Kohli is batting out of his crease, hopping on to his toes to flick and deflect. England haven't looked like taking a wicket since the lunch break.
