Ashwin has missed it by four or five inches. Root is seeing the funny side at least.

Lawrence's first ball spins big. Foakes takes it one-handed down the leg side in stunning fashion.

Someone around the bat heard something and Root reviews.

Dan Lawrence's part-time off-spin gets an outing in the final over before lunch.

Broad is bowling exclusively cutters. Foakes, still chirping away with "Yes, Broady", "bowled Broady", plucks one at 76mph out of the air. The rest hit the middle of Kohli's bat.

How many future aircraft accidents are going to have their origins in David being too busy watching the cricket?

Broad, not one to hide his emotions, has the teapot out on the boundary edge.

Can Ben Foakes field at slip too? Stuart Broad finds the edge of Ravichandran Ashwin's bat with a leg-cutter, the ball goes quickly to Ben Stokes at slip but he can't hold on one-handed to his left.

Stokes is close. It carried comfortably. It surprised him.

    Me too, Ben.

Stuart Broad is on for his first bowl of the innings. Ben Foakes is standing up to the stumps, the utter mad man.

I'm a primary school teacher so I can check Zack has got enough fronted adverbials in his work. I'm no expert on Luther, but I think the 'Diet of Worms' probably means something different in my world.

That's a sensational picture. Has an aeroplane ever stopped play before? Have you had play halted by anything stranger? Let me know.

That sounds quite interesting. I still wouldn't want to read it. No offence. One of our houseplants has collapsed over night. I hope it's not a metaphor for things to come.

Ashwin has 24 from 27 balls.

Exciting progress this morning for England as I write my PhD thesis on aircraft accidents that occur when aircraft fall off runways. I think the pitch would make an ideal arresting bed material and slow the aeroplanes nicely.

There's a fella waving a shirt above his head in the crowd. Ashwin has clubbed Root over short fine leg for four. Now they all chat his name. India have passed England's first-innings score now.

Runs are coming now. It has been a fine session for England but their spin attack is not as good as India's. This partnership is worth 25 and it has come in good time.

From what I gathered yesterday it'll just be house after house of screaming babies. Jack Leach is limping now but will still continue to bowl.

Stuart Broad hurls himself after the ball on the boundary edge to prevent four. He goes sliding into the advertising boards afterwards and rips the knee of his whites in the process. He's hobbling a little but smiling.
