We don't know how long Zack or Louis' essays are but I'm going to guess at 10,000 words. We need more. I hope their lecturers prefer croquet to cricket.

Root brings himself on in place of Moeen and concedes just a single from his first over.

Zack, stick something in about how the printing press helped disseminate his work to a wide audience.

Leach has been very good but in the last three or four overs there has been one bad ball. This one to Kohli is too short and easy pickings for the great man. Kohli swishes his bat with the skill of a Jedi to guide the ball into a gap soon after. Precision.

Commotion in the middle. It seems Ben Stokes is annoyed after the final ball was given as four on the replay. His boot was in contact with the rope as he flicked the ball back but he mustn't have seen it on the big screen.

He complains to the umpires, who then have a word with Kohli. Settle down.

And Ashwin clubs a sweep for four to his second ball resulting in wild celebration in the stands.

Ravi Shastri, India's coach, grins like a Bond villain behind orange sunglasses in the dressing room. He knows things are going to get very tasty later.

They like Ravichandran Ashwin in these parts, it seems. It sounds as though the Beatles have turned up in Chennai.

Axar lbw Moeen 7 (Ind 106-6)

It's umpire's call on height but a good decision. It just looked out. Axar Patel has to wander off. He was beaten on the inside edge - another sign of the difficulty of this pitch.

    England have five this morning.

Moeen has hit Axar's back leg. It looks straight. There's no bat either.

Can Louis cite you as a reason to give up?

Leach bowls a rare full toss. Kohli flicks it away wristily. The lead is over 300.

Feeling sorry for Louis. I didn't study politics but, as a solicitor, I would have thought that common law jurisdictions go against an absolute standard of legislative effectiveness independent of political culture. Caselaw is constantly evolving as precedents are rewritten, often influenced by cultural trends. Commonwealth countries, and England and Wales to lesser extent, are also borrowing these precedents from each other to shape their own law.

Watching Foakes keep is a sport in itself. I'm transfixed. He bobs down before rising as the ball is released, his black gloves looking like they have suction powers as they take the spitting ball. Occasionally a leg comes up in the air as Foakes rides the bounce. He then casually tosses the ball to a team-mate. Beautiful.

Jack Leach is bowling nicely. Very nicely. Foakes whips off the bails once again, doing so faster than you can say stumping. No danger for the batsmen this time.

Does that help Zack? It sounds impressive to me but I'm no expert. Another over from Moeen takes us to drinks.

There were 43 runs and four wickets in that hour.

    India lead by 292.

Zack should think about the extent to which Luther's reformation was unplanned and forced upon him. He'll no doubt want to refer to the unexpected response to the 95 Theses, but also the corners he was pushed into by both Eck at Leipzig in 1519 and of course at the Diet of Worms in 1521.

    Kohli 18, Axar 1

Stuart Broad has just returned to the field after a spell off. He has been a specialist number 11/mid-on during the last two days. The question may not have been Moeen v Bess but Bess v Broad. Should England have played three spinners?

Meanwhile, Kohli plays the shot of the morning by easing Leach back down the ground to the boundary.

Left-handed debutant Axar Patel is India's number seven. Virat is still out there with nine from 37 balls.
