Blimey. This Foakes fella is some keeper. Wished he played football too - my team Gillingham could do with glovework this skilled!

Kohli blocks out the end of Leach's wicket-taking over. Within 15 minutes England have two wickets. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or just speeding up the inevitable.

Foakes is gaining a whole army of new fans with this display.

Yes it's early and I may have early morning giddiness, but India all out for less than 100 and we get the runs...

India have promoted Rishabh Pant ahead of Ajinkya Rahane. They want to get on with this.

Rohit st Foakes b Leach 26 (Ind 55-3)

Foakes has hands faster than Usain Bolt on a moped. He whips the bails off in a flash to a ball that has turned and bounced a mile. Rohit has just dragged his boot over the line. It's Foakes' birthday too.

    A lovely start for England.

It's tight but England think they have him. Leach is the bowler.

Hello! Fast hands Ben Foakes is very confident he's got Rohit stumped.

One of the few advantages of writing a politics essay until 3.30am in the morning is it keeps you awake for the early start. I can only hope that England's performance this morning is better than mine...

Virat Kohli joins Rohit Sharma in the middle. I doubt we'll see Virat trying to bash Moeen out of the rough early again today.

Pujara run out Pope 7 (Ind 55-2)

What a hideous way to get out and a lovely start to the day for England!

Cheteshwar Pujara has flicked off his pads, taken a step down the pitch before Ollie Pope stopped the ball at short leg. Pujara then tries to turn and make his ground but his bat gets stuck in his sandpit of a pitch short of the line. He then tries to lurch a boot over the line but doesn't get there in time. Remarkable.

Pujara has dropped his bat as he tried to make his ground. He's struggling.

An early run out from short leg? Cheteshwar Pujara has made an ungainly attempt to get back.

One talking point has dominated rest during this Test. The pitch.

    Aggers has had say.

He takes nothing away from India's performance but says if every pitch was like this then there would be no point in playing the longer format.

"Yes, you expect it to turn in India, but not like this; it was taking huge holes out of the pitch in the first hour of the first day," he writes.

"You may as well go and play on a beach."

Full credit for getting up today. This morning was a struggle for me. Is there a scientific reason for why I wake up every 10 minutes from an hour before my alarm? And how can I stop?
