"Conditions were challenging for both sides but we showed more application to grit it out. We didn't panic. We scored 600 in two innings combined."
A hint from Virat to all those questions about the pitch?
India captain Virat Kohli at the presentation: "It was a bit strange in the first game playing at home without the crowd. Things were a little flat in the first couple of days, myself included. The second innings onwards in the first game we picked up our game and were on the money in terms of our body language. This game the crowd made a massive difference. You push more as a team and this game was example of the grit and determination we have shown as a side. The fans' support is a big part of that.
"Our application with the bat was outstanding. Conditions were challenging for both sides but we showed more application to grit it out. We didn't panic. We scored 600 in two innings combined. It was a perfect game for us."

Jonny Bairstow is back, having played in Sri Lanka, and is available. You think he'd get a run at number three. They may look at Zak Crawley in for Rory Burns.
Ollie Pope needs some runs; I was surprised he didn't get moved to number three. The word on the England street is that he could be the next Joe Root - if he's that good then why is he hidden at number six?
England captain Joe Root at the presentation: "I think credit has to go to India. They played very well and outplayed us in all three departments. We got a bit of an education. We have got to learn. These are the conditions you sometimes come up against. We have got to find a way score in these conditions and take wickets.
"With the ball on day one we could have been a bit tighter and squeezed the game a bit more.
"With the bat it was a challenging wicket from day two onwards. We have to be smart with how we score out here. We have to learn from the opposition.
"We are 1-1 in the series with two important games to come. We are very much in this series. It is set up very nicely."
It's fair to say that's a popular decision in Chennai.
Ravichandran Ashwin wins the player-of-the-match award for his eight wickets and a hundred.
Brave.

For the next test, I'd go: Sibley, Bairstow, Pope, Root, Stokes, Foakes, Ali, Woakes, Leach, Archer, Anderson. Hit them with a six man attack with the pink ball.

You can say the pitch was poor for Test cricket but it was still a pitch on which the Indians got runs on. It's not easy, takes a huge amount of skill and planning in the way you're going to play. But Rory Burns played across the spin when it's spitting like it was, it's a high-risk shot.
He is under pressure. He's had a poor run of form over the last few Tests that he's played.
There's plenty of defence of the pitch from Virat Kohli...

Ravi Ashwin is the great of the game who will end up with 500 Test wickets, if not more.
Joe Root is keen to stress it's only 1-1 at the presentation. He does say his team were given an education.

India are just more skilled on these conditions, when the ball spins from day one. They have more skill in playing the spinning ball and they have better spinners. .

Tony Ord: Changes to be made Crawley, Bairstow, Anderson in for Burns, Lawrence & Stone Unfair on Stone, but we need our 1000 wicket double team for the hopefully swinging pink ball test.

The pitch started to spin pretty much from ball one. We saw in the last session on day one it started to take a chunk out of the surface. England didn't bowl well enough on that first day but sometimes you can get intimidated by a player on day one; Rohit Sharma was that player.
Here's a stat for you...
In the last day-night Test in India the hosts' seamers took all 20 wickets of their wickets. The pink ball will probably swing but surely the pitch will spin.
It's going to be an awkward team selection.

There is no point in any quick bowlers being in this team. Might as well go with five spinners if the pitches are going to be like this for the last two Tests.

England have got to be honest, to have the highest partnership of 38 - there should have been more. Even though the pitch was against them, they have the skill and should have done better.
You have to ask yourself, did we play to our maximum this week? England didn't do that.
Was the game won by Rohit Sharma brilliant hundred on day one? India didn't look back afterwards. He's in with a shout for player of the match but you'd be brave to take it away from Ashwin.
