Target 482
More groans from the crowd and a shriek of delight from Rishabh Pant. Axar Patel has turned the ball square and beaten Joe Root. Root responds by attempting a sweep. He misses that too. So tough.
England batting coaching consultant Jonathan Trott: "We have got players who can score runs themselves. It's nice to know you can score runs on a wicket like this. We saw the way that Foakes went about in the first innings. Hopefully we can have more.
"This pitch is a little bit tricky. But we managed runs on the last wicket, so the guys will be very confident."
A ball leaps at England skipper Root and he pulls his hand away from the bat as if it had given him an electric shock. Root grins after taking a suspicious look at this much talked about pitch. He has survived another over.

I'm in position with coffee and PJs for the ultimate glory of an England win. I've checked out the odds with the bookies for an England win at 20-1 and decided to go with the 10,000-1 offered by my mate Stan. I wanted 50,000-1 but he wouldn't agree. Anyway I'm feeling confident that the boys will do it so I've put the whole pound on it. Come on boys!

Lawrence 21, Root 4
A decent crowd has turned up considering this could be over in a matter of minutes. They groan in unison as Axar beats Root's outside edge. Ravichandran Ashwin gives them a wave too.
Here's the spin of Axar Patel.
Target 482
Andy is optimistic although I sense some sarcasm. A thick outside edge gives Lawrence a couple.

Andy: By close of play: Dan Lawrence 128*, Joe Root 77, Ben Stokes 48*, England: 300-4.
Surprisingly, seamer Mohammed Siraj begins the day. Kohli is toying with us. Root pulls a single for his first run of the morning.
England have seven wickets remaining as they chase an almost impossible 482 or attempt to bat out the final two days for a draw. To survive from here it would be Headingley with a cherry, sprinkles, golden syrup, melted chocolate and ice cream on top. Can you tell I'm excited for my pancakes?
There are still important themes to the day.
Can Dan Lawrence score enough runs to secure his place for the third Test? Will Ben Stokes find some form with the bat? Will Ravichandran Ashwin achieve the rare feat of a 10-wicket haul and a century in the same match?
England are just hoping they won't get battered.

On the 'flip' side, all over by 11am for pancake brunch.

Spin bowling consultant Jeetan Patel defended England's spinners despite India's match-wining position in the Test.
Moeen Ali and Jack Leach both took four wickets in India's 286 all out in their second innings but have been out-bowled by their Indian counterparts.
Patel said they have "put in a hell of an effort".
"They'll be tired tonight and tired tomorrow but we should take a lot of positives from it."

Ross2: Sometimes you question your own sanity. This morning is definitely one of those times.
I did consider an introduction with as many pancake-based puns as I could think of but it was too much work for 3:30am on a Tuesday morning. The fact it's Pancake Day is the real positive. My second favourite day of the year.
The good news for England fans is this is almost certain to be the last early morning for a while. The bad is their side's winning run will be over by the end of the day.
If you're getting up to watch England's painful and inevitable slide to defeat I'm impressed.
Is anyone up?
