Dry pitch or not, you'll struggle to find anyone who will argue England haven't been totally outclassed over the past three and a bit days.

Darren Ramage: Such a meek ending to this Test. Disappointed by the lack of fight by England this morning.

Just waking up? England's steady and inevitable slide to defeat continued in the morning session.

They lost four wickets and now India need just three more for victory.

England have tried to be positive in an impossible situation.

Dan Lawrence lasted for 25 minutes before he was brilliantly stumped by Rishabh Pant off Ravichandran Ashwin, Ben Stokes batted for 50 balls before he was caught off bat and pad and Ollie Pope and Ben Foakes have both been dismissed on the sweep.

Ashwin has eight wickets in the match. Only three players - Ian Botham, Imran Khan and Shakib al Hasan - have taken 10 and scored a century in the same Test.

Much like England. This is going to be a tough one to bounce back from.

India need three wickets to win

And that wicket means the players take lunch. India are on the brink.

    Foakes c Axar b Kuldeep 2 (Eng 116-7)

He's not superman after all. Ben Foakes has hit a sweep straight to square leg. England are crumbling. Kuldeep finally has his first wicket.

India need four wickets to win

Root gets a horrible over from Axar Patel with one ball going straight on and the rest spinning big. I think that was just variation off the pitch. That or Axar has the best arm-ball in history.

  10. Eng 116-6published at 47 overs

Poor Kuldeep Yadav should have had his first wicket of the match.

Root dropped on 32published at 05:50 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2021

A sitter. It's a good job India are cruising towards victory or Mohammed Siraj would have been searching for a hole to hide himself in.

Root top-edges a reverse sweep, it loops to Siraj at backward point but somehow he spills the ball.

  12. Eng 113-6published at 46 overs

England may just make it to lunch without India being able to take the extra half hour.

All Pancake XI's would need a world class egg spinner unless playing French cricket when they'd bring in an ouef spinner instead.

The smouldering eyes of Ben Foakes improve any day. He has neatly spread some suncream across his nose and cheeks. Kuldeep spins it one way and then t'other. One from the over.

    Never fear, Foakesy is here.

    Pope c Ishant b Axar 12 (Eng 110-6)

Oh don't get out like that, Ollie.

Pope sees an unplayable ball rip past his edge and almost bowl him. He responds by playing a hard sweep the left-armer Axar Patel, gets a top-edge and is caught in the deep.

It looks awful in the situation. He was spooked by the ball before. India are closing in.

  17. Eng 110-5published at 05:39 Greenwich Mean Time 16 February 2021

Left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav is on for his first bowl of the innings. He has hardly had a look-in in the match with Axar and Ashwin doing the damage.

With his long sleeves, long-on-top/short-on-the-sides haircut and wispy beard, he looks like someone you'd see in an artisan coffee shop.

India need five wickets to win

Stephan and I have discussed similar as an improvement for the Olympics opening ceremony. A sort of multi-sport relay. Equestrian competitor passes a baton to a sprinter who gives it to an archer. You get the drift.

I'm not sure Kohli would agree to a pancake race though. We can try.

We can all see that England are going to win this, or worst case get a draw. So why don't we offer India the chance to win by holding a five-leg relay of a three-legged pancake race. Each team starts on the boundary and must flip the pancake five times before they get to the middle, they then run round the stumps 10 times before heading off to the other boundary again, flipping five times before handing the pancake over to the next leg off the relay.
