  • Group 2: Leics v Middlesex; Surrey v Glos

  • Group 3: Lancs v Yorks; Sussex v Northants

  1. Sussex now four downpublished at 17:24 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Sussex 175 & 99-4 v Northants 256

Northants are doing a good job of just slowing chipping away at Sussex here, with the hosts now four down at Hove.

Tom Haines remains the one constant, bringing up his half-century with a six in the last over, but a few deliveries later Tom Clark was removed by Gareth Berg for 13.

  2. wicket

Norwell strikes againpublished at 17:23 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Duckett lbw Norwell 4 (Notts 78-2 v Warwickshire 341)

A second wicket for Liam Norwell as Ben Duckett departs for a duck.

It has been a good restart after the rain break at Edgbaston for the buoyant Bears.

Worcestershire old boy Joe Clarke, once reportedly a target for the Bears, is the new man in.

  3. Glos lose Dent earlypublished at 17:17 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Surrey 473 v Gloucestershire 39-1

Surrey have made an early(ish) breakthrough at The Oval, removing Chris Dent for 14.

Miles Hammond is the new man in at number three.

  4. Back playing again at New Roadpublished at 17:13 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Derbyshire 14-1 v Worcestershire 341

After just eight balls were managed in the afternoon session, they have now made a restart at New Road and Derbyshire have already lost an early wicket.

Skipper Billy Godleman goes to the penultimate ball of Dillon Pennington's second over.

Derbyshire's next man in is Leus du Plooy.

  5. wicket

Vilas out at Old Traffordpublished at 17:08 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Vilas c Kohler-Cadmore b Coad 35 (Yorkshire 159 v Lancashire 309-5)

A fifth wicket for Yorkshire at Old Trafford as Dane Vilas slices an attempted drive off Ben Coad and Tom Kohler-Cadmore runs back from slip towards third man to take the catch.

Vilas goes for 35, leaving Josh Bohannon still there on 20. That pretty much ends any forlorn hope of another home batting point.

The new man at the crease is Luke Wood.

  6. wicket

Hameed out at Edgbastonpublished at 17:03 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Hameed b Norwell 39 (Notts 72-1 v Warwickshire 341)

Play resumes at Edgbaston and Warwickshire immediately get a wicket. A big one too as Liam Norwell bowls in-form Haseeb Hameed.

The recalled England batsman made 39.

    Ben Slater is on 34.

The new man in is Ben Duckett.

  7. 300 runs

300 up for Lancashirepublished at 17:01 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Yorkshire 159 v Lancashire 307-4

Lancashire secure a third batting point, in the 104th over - with a huge six from Josh Bohannon back over bowler Dom Bess's head.

Dane Vilas is on 33. Bohannon is on 20.

It's unlikely they'll get another batting point before the 110-over cut-off mark unless one of these two suddenly goes mad over the next six overs. But the hosts now lead Yorkshire by 144 - and that is starting to look a sizeable lead.

  8. Leics all outpublished at 16:59 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Leics 136 v Middlesex 295

Leicestershire have lost their last three wickets in the space of 18 balls and concede a first-innings deficit of 159.

Middlesex can ask them to follow on if they fancy it.

  9. Not yet ready for a New Road restartpublished at 16:55 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Worcestershire 421 v Derbyshire 2-0

    Dan Wheeler
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

The wait goes on. Which would be annoying enough if it was still raining but it's not. In fact, it's never been brighter, or warmer here on day two.

The drizzle has stopped and tea was taken at 3.45, but the covers are still on and the umpires - Rob Bailey and Ben Debenham - are having a socially-distanced chat with head groundsman Tim Packwood.

The masked, strictly limited and now thinning crowd, all lodged in a semi circle on one side of the ground between the hotel and the Basil D'Oliveira Stand, are probably wondering what's going on.

There have been signs of action though, as the 4x4s whizz round dragging the heavy rope - and getting up some serious speed too, it has to be said.

  10. wicket

WICKETpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    ten Doeschate lbw b Carse 55 (Durham 99 v Essex 182 & 178-6)

    Finally Durham make the breakthrough.

Seamer Brydon Carse pins Ryan ten Doeschate lbw and it ends his stand of 125 with Adam Wheater.

It's the best partnership of the match by some considerable distance and it has put Essex in a winning position.

They lead by 261 with four more wickets to play with.

  11. Vilas getting into his stridepublished at 16:47 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Yorkshire 159, Lancashire 288-4

Lancashire skipper Dane Vilas is helping his side get their innings back on course after the loss of those three quick wickets.

He and Bohannon have so far put on 36 in 11 overs, of which Vilas has so far plundered 26, including four boundaries.

As they pause for a sanitation break, that has edged Lancs in reach of a third batting point, with nine overs to the 110-over cut-off.

More importantly, the lead is up to 130.

  12. Sussex in troublepublished at 16:42 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Sussex 175 & 79-3 v Northants 256

Sussex opener Tom Haines has just gone to fifty but his side have also lost a couple of quick wickets, both to spinner Simon Kerrigan.

First the one-time England man got Stiaan van Zyl caught and bowled, and he's just dismissed Australia batsman Travis Head without scoring.

Sussex only lead by two runs and they're three down.

  13. rain stops play

Rain returns at Edgbastonpublished at 16:42 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Warwickshire 341 v Notts 72-0

They've come off again in Birmingham, where Haseeb Hameed and Ben Slater had got Notts off to a good start in reply to Warwickshire's total of 341.

Rain has forced another interruption but not before the rejuvenated Hameed had gone past 500 first-class runs for the season.

  14. Postpublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Durham 99 v Essex 182 & 174-5

Back out after tea at Chester-le-Street.

How many can Essex stretch their lead to? It stands at 258.

31 overs remain in the day - they may even find themselves bowling tonight.

  15. Postpublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Surrey 473 v Gloucestershire 6-0

Kraigg Brathwaite and Chris Dent have begun Group Two leaders Gloucestershire's first innings after tea.

A few wickets for Surrey before the close and they'll be even more firmly in the ascendancy.

  16. Foxes fight back at Leicesterpublished at 16:25 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Middlesex 295 v Leicestershire 111-7

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

Middlesex continued the fine work of the morning to force Leicestershire deep into trouble on 42-6 but the hosts are scrambling hard to recover the situation and were 38 runs short of the follow-on target at tea.

It's unlikely the visitors would enforce with a clear forecast for the match and the pitch having taken spin from the first morning.

It was the seam attack that did the damage either side of lunch, with Martin Andersson getting in on the act to claim all four that fell in the afternoon, including two in two balls.

Leicestershire will know on this bowler friendly surface that a final innings chase will be tough, with the assistance for the spinners expected to increase, so keeping some sight of the visitors by the end of the first innings is crucial.

  17. Tea at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 16:21 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Durham 99 v Essex 182 & 170-5

Ryan ten Doeschate (54 not out) and Adam Wheater's (55 not out) stand of 117 has put Essex in a winning position at tea on day two.

The defending champions lead by 253, which might already be enough.

  18. 50 runs

50 partnership at Edgbastonpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Warwickshire 341 v Notts 51-0

Haseeb Hameed and Ben Slater have started the evening session at Edgbaston in the same solid manner.

This is their fifth half-century partnership since first being paired together last August.

The rejuvenated Hameed, recalled as cover by England last week, is on 31 and Slater is on 20

  19. Tea at Old Traffordpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Surrey 473 v Gloucestershire

    Higgins finishes with 4-69.

    That'll be tea.
