  1. Early tea at New Roadpublished at 15:58 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Worcestershire 341, Derbyshire 2-0

After just eight balls in the afternoon session at New Road, squeezed in between two rain breaks, they are now taking tea.

The intention is then for umpires Rob Bailey and Ben Debenham to take another look, to see what time they can restart?

Sadly, in this painful reduced capacity Covid era, the famed Ladies Pavilion teas are no longer available, as that side of the famous old New Road ground is closed.to supporters. But there is some cake in the pressbox! Admirably delivered in a socially distanced bag. For which grateful thanks, say the recipients.

    Durham 99 v Essex 182 & 159-5

Ryan ten Doeschate (51 not out) and Adam Wheater (47 not out) have put Essex into a position of real strength since lunch.

They've now put on more than 100 and Essex's lead is 242.

  3. Clarke goes for 65published at 15:46 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Surrey 468-9 v Gloucestershire

    Well played, Rikki Clarke.

The veteran has chipped in with 65 - including eight fours and two sixes - before being bowled by Ryan Higgins.

  4. wicket

Tykes take another wicketpublished at 15:35 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Livingstone c Olivier b Thompson 6 (Yorkshire 159 v Lancashire 252-4)

A third victim with the new ball for Yorkshire as Liam Livingstone gives away his wicket.

Having just unleashed the shot of the day by getting off the mark with a beautiful pull to the boundary, he goes for another attacking shot and succeeds only in picking out Duanne Olivier to earn Jordan Thompson a second wicket.

Lancashire skipper Dane Vilas is the new man in.

  5. Back on at Edgbastonpublished at 15:34 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Warwickshire 341 v Notts 32-0

Having been on a rain break at Edgbaston, they took an early tea - but they are now back underway again.

  6. wicket

Yorkshire strike againpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Wells c Kohler-Cadmore b Thompson 60 (Yorkshire 159 v Lancashire 246-3)

No sooner than one goes, then so does another.

Two wickets in five balls for Yorkshire.

Another slip catch for Tom Kohler-Cadmore as, without a run added, Luke Wells follows Keaton Jennings back to the hutch.

Two new men at the crease. Josh Bohannon and Liam Livingstone.

Dane Vilas is next man in.

Yorkshire already trail by 87 - and that Lancy lead is only going to grow. But by how much will it grow? The Tykes now at least have some hope.

  7. wicket

Jennings out at Old Traffordpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Jennings c Kohler-Cadmore b Coad 114 (Yorkshire 159 v Lancashire 242-2)

After bludgeoning three fours in the wake of reaching his century, Keaton Jennings goes in search of one attacking shot too many - and Yorkshire have their first wicket of the day.

It's the fifth over since the new ball was taken and reward for Yorkshire for keeping up the attack with a three-man slip cordon.

Tom Kohler-Cadmore's slip catch is also a scalp for Ben Coad, which keeps up the Yorkshire paceman's record of always taking wickets against Lancashire, every time he has played in a Roses Match. That's his 21st.

Of all the 17 counties in the Championship, he has only taken more against one other county, Hampshire (25).

  8. Amla's marathon stay overpublished at 15:12 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Surrey 428-8 v Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire have got their man at last!

Hashim Amla's marathon 347-ball stay at the crease comes to an end when he chops a Miles Hammond delivery onto his own stumps.

His brilliant 173 - including 16 boundaries - has put Surrey in control at The Oval.

  9. 100 runs

100 for Keaton Jenningspublished at 15:10 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Yorkshire 159 v Lancashire 233-1

A century for Keaton Jennings. His fourth for Lancashire, his first since 2018. Five and half hours. 253 balls. 11 fours.

Perhaps not the most exuberant of knocks. But, in the context of any Roses Match, absolutely crucial.

The Lancy lead nears 100. Still no wicket today for Yorkshire.

Luke Wells at the other end is on 60.

  10. Postpublished at 15:02 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Sussex 175 & 15-1 v Northants 256

Not the start Sussex would've been looking for.

Aaron Thompson edges a Ben Sanderson delivery behind and Sussex, still 66 behind, have already lost one of their openers.

  11. Postpublished at 14:58 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

The blue sky and sunshine of yesterday has been replaced by dull overcast conditions with little breeze to blow the clouds away.

But the change in the weather hasn’t deterred supporters who are inside Emirates Old Trafford in good numbers once again.

They’ve witnessed slow but steady progress by Lancashire as they look to bat themselves into a match winning position.

Keaton Jennings, who has hit his fourth half century in five innings, and Luke Wells have already added over 100 for the second wicket.

Both have seemingly approached the day with the intention of only batting once in the match.

  12. Frustration in Worcesterpublished at 14:54 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Worcestershire 421 v Derbyshire 2-0

    Dan Wheeler
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

After trying at 2.00, only to be thwarted by the returning drizzle, they tried again at 2.25.

Eight balls later, the rain came again. And off they went.

In those eight balls, Worcestershire captain Joe Leach demonstrated enough movement to suggest the home attack will keep everything crossed that the break is not a long one.

The drizzle is pretty light - the sort that might mean you don't have to water the pots tonight. But Leach still walked off with a double teapot on. Understandably frustrated.

With a poor forecast ahead, frustration might be the word of the day.

  13. 50 runs

50 for Luke Wellspublished at 14:52 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Yorkshire 159 v Lancashire 212-1

Fresh from picking up their first batting bonus point, Luke Wells goes to his first 50 for Lancashire - the 34th of his first-class career.

And his first since the surprise end-of-season departure from Sussex that led to him being snapped up by Lancashire.

Like Keaton Jennings' earlier, it took almost four hours. But these are important runs for the Red Rose - and since lunch, the scoring rate has now noticeably picked up.

Yorkshire take the new ball. After 49 overs, will this mean a first breakthrough of the day?

  14. Northants all out for 256published at 14:44 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Sussex 175 v Northants 256

A really useful 51-run last-wicket stand between Gareth Berg (43 not out) and Ben Sanderson (20) has put Northants in a really handy position here.

Their lead, 81 runs, looks pretty chunky in the context of two relatively low-scoring innings.

  15. rain stops play

Rain stops play again at New Roadpublished at 14:39 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Worcestershire 421 v Derbyshire 2-0

Just eight balls sent down and two runs scored at New Road (both no balls) in the Derbyshire reply and they're back off again.

Those ominous clouds, of which BBC Hereford & Worcester's Dan Wheeler spoke first thing this morning, have indeed unleashed.

But not with the wickets he had hoped for. Only rain!

Frustrating for all those masked returning fans. Well, the 600 or so allowed in anyway!

  16. Essex continue to build leadpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Durham 99 v Essex 182 & 77-5

When Essex reached 179-5 on the first day, you probably wouldn't have expected that by the time another 179 runs were scored in the match 20 wickets would've fallen!

Nonetheless, that's where we are. Essex are 77-5 in their second innings, leading by 160.

  17. No hat-trick for Anderssonpublished at 14:29 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Leicestershire 43-6 v Middlesex

Callum Parkinson manages to keep out the hat-trick ball.

  18. rain stops play

No way through for Bearspublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Warwickshire 341 v Notts 28-0

Still no breakthrough for Warwickshire's seamers at Edgbaston, even after the arrival of Tim Bresnan into the home attack as first change in place of Liam Norwell.

Ben Slater (15) and Haseeb Hameed (13) are going well.

Oliver Hannon-Dalby has so far sent down seven overs for just 11 runs.

At which point they have come off for rain. Looks like the shower has arrived from Worcester.

  19. Make that six downpublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Leicestershire 42-6 v Middlesex

    Ooops, I spoke too soon.

Martin Andersson has removed Ben Mike first ball lbw and is on a hat-trick...

  20. Foxes now five downpublished at 14:26 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Leicestershire 42-5 v Middlesex

This hasn't been a good morning for Leicestershire.

Martin Andersson has removed Sam Evans (15) and Harry Swindells (one) in successive overs to leave the hosts 42-5 - still trailing by 253.
