  1. Another lbw at Chester-le-Streetpublished at 11:27 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Durham 79-7 v Essex 182

Durham lost a wicket to the very final delivery of day one and they've lost another inside the opening half an hour or so of day two.

Sam Cook claims his fourth wicket of the innings, pinning Ned Eckersley in front for 16 with the hosts still trailing by 103 at Chester-le-Street.

Six of the seven Durham wickets to fall have been lbw, with the other bowled, which suggests Essex are very much attacking the stumps.

In fact, of the 17 wickets to fall in total only one hasn't been bowled or lbw.

  2. wicket

Early wicket at Edgbastonpublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Briggs c Moores b Paterson 7 (Warwickshire 250-6 v Notts)

After his three-wicket burst on Thursday evening, Dane Paterson carries on in the same vein by getting the early wicket of Danny Briggs. Paterson's figures now look a lot better than they did an hour before the close last night. 4-68 off 24 overs.

Matt Lamb follows that by going to his half-century as the Bears go in search of a third batting bonus point..

  3. Leics also strike earlypublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Leicestershire v Middlesex 270-8

Like London neighbours Surrey, Middlesex have also lost a wicket early on the second day.

Ben Mike is the man to strike, removing Tom Helm caught behind by wicketkeeper Harry Swindells.

John Simpson, who is now just 18 runs short of a century, is joined at the crease by Ethan Bamber.

  4. 50 runs

50 for Ed Barnardpublished at 11:14 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Worcestershire 339-7 v Derbyshire

Ed Barnard gets to his 50 at New Road - the 16th time he has reached that landmark in first-class cricket.

Another good effort from the unsung England Lions all-rounder.

  5. Dream start for Glospublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Surrey 285-6 v Gloucestershire

What a start for Gloucestershire at The Oval!

With the very first ball of the day, David Payne finds the outside edge of Jamie Overton's bat and he departs for 50.

Hashim Amla, who brought up his 54th first-class century late on day one, remains.

  6. Off and running at Old Traffordpublished at 11:04 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Yorkshire 159 v Lancashire 97-1

Three runs off the first over of the second day at Old Trafford in the Roses Match.

Two of them to Keaton Jennings.

    He's speeded up already.

  7. Bowler friendly skies at New Road?published at 11:01 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Worcestershire 336-7 v Derbyshire

    Dan Wheeler
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

Worcestershire resume day two with an excellent chance to lay a challenging target under much more bowler-friendly skies at New Road - in stark contrast to yesterday's glorious sunshine.

For the second time in three weeks 20-year-old Jack Haynes posted his career-best only to fall agonisingly short of a maiden century, this time when he found the bucket hands of Dustin Melton attempting to hit a Matt Critchley long-hop into the outskirts of Worcester.

But Haynes isn't worrying too much. "I feel good at the moment," he told BBC Hereford & Worcester. "I was run out against Warwickshire when I felt in a decent place and I just hit a long hop straight to deep mid-wicket so I don't think there's too much to worry about - hopefully it'll come. I need to be patient and hopefully take my chance."

A sentiment shared by Worcestershire's lower order as they try to go beyond 400, then make the most of the tempting-looking cloud cover.

  8. Today's forecastpublished at 10:59 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

With players just starting to emerge onto fields up and down the land, here's a look at today's forecast.

It's not quite as glorious as yesterday, but hopefully we're still set pretty fair for day two...

  10. Red Rose in full bloompublished at 10:54 British Summer Time 28 May 2021

    Yorkshire 159, Lancashire 95-1

Lancashire will start the second day of the Roses Match well in control at Old Trafford.

The Red Rose dominated the first and third sessions on day one, reducing Yorkshire to 40-7 just before lunch, before ending the day on 95-1, following a typically quickfire 52 from Alex Davies, around which his more disciplined opening partner Keaton Jennings ground out 22 off 94 balls before the close.

But the second session was Yorkshire's as a splendidly gutsy maiden half-century from teenager Harry Duke helped the Tykes reach a far healthier looking 159.

Yorkshire's total might seem a modest one but things can change very quickly in cricket, especially in local derbies and especially in this contest - English county cricket's greatest derby of them all.

The Lancashire lads will do well to start the day not feeling too complacent. Yet...

Who will day two belong to? Let's find out.
