Summary

  • Group One: Derbys v Warwickshire; Essex v Notts; Worcs v Durham

  • Group Two: Leics v Gloucs; Somerset v Hants

  • Group Three: Glamorgan v Lancs; Kent v Northants; Yorks v Sussex

  1. Postpublished at 12:12 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

    Yorkshire v Sussex 310-7

There'll be no debut century for 16-year-old Danial Ibrahim, who's been dismissed by Ben Coad for 55. A fantastic knock in his maiden first-class appearance nonetheless.

Sussex, with three batting points in the bag, continue to plug away.

  2. Postpublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

    Somerset 360 v Hampshire 31-3

After a toiling opening spell from Lewis Gregory and Josh Davey, Marchant de Lange is brought into the attack by Somerset skipper Tom Abell - and what a change up it's been.

De Lange has struck twice in one over for the hosts, first removing Tom Alsop for four and then opener Cameron Steel for 15.

  3. Postpublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

    Leicestershire 379-6 v Gloucestershire

Leicestershire are on course to make a really substantial first-innings total against Gloucestershire, thanks largely to Marcus Harris' 148 yesterday.

But it looks like they're going to fall short of maximum batting points, with Harry Swindells falling to Tom Smith this morning.

  4. 50 runs

50 partnership at New Roadpublished at 11:54 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

    Worcestershire 131 v Durham 188-4

Smooth progress for Durham's fifth-wicket pair at New Road.

Michael Jones and South African David Bedingham, the country's top run scorer, have now posted a 50 partnership.

  5. Hannon-Dalby strikes at Derbypublished at 11:50 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

    Derbyshire 8-1 v Warwickshire

Early wicket for Oliver Hannon-Dalby in the Derbyshire reply against Warwickshire.

Luis Reece is tapped leg before wicket to the first ball of the tall Yorkshireman's third over.

It's a 20th wicket of the season for OHD. 170th for Warwickshire and his 220th in first-class cricket - but apparently his first ever at Derby.

  6. Better start for Lancashirepublished at 11:40 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

    Glamorgan 150 v Lancashire 173 and 23-0

Lancashire are off to a better start than they managed against Glamorgan in Cardiff yesterday morning.

Already they have doubled their first innings lead from 23 to 46.

In fact, make that 27-0 as Alex Davies clubs Michael Neser for a second successive four to take the lead to 50.

As ever Davies is going for his shots. Already he is on 24, while Keaton Jennings is typically restrained on 3 - the score he was out for on the first morning.

  7. Sound start for Durhampublished at 11:37 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

    Worcestershire 131 v Durham 164-4

Half an hour gone at New Road - and no breakthrough yet for Worcestershire as Michael Jones and David Bedingham.

This is the Pears' last County Championship game before the month-long T20 Blast break.

Worcestershire's first game is at home to holders Nottinghamshire next Wednesday (9 June, 17:30 BST) - and there is speculation that the 2018 winners might have some important team news to announce later today.

  8. Postpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

    Somerset 360 v Hampshire 19-1

Somerset have broken through at Taunton.

Hampshire opener Ian Holland is the man to fall, caught by Roelef van der Merwe off the bowling of Josh Davey.

The momentum of this match is clearly with Somerset, having recovered from 43-5 to post 360 on day one, so how can the visiting batsmen respond?

  9. 50 runs

50 for Danial Ibrahimpublished at 11:28 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

    Yorkshire v Sussex 283-6

How about this for a debut innings from 16-year-old Danial Ibrahim?

He's just brought up his half-century for Sussex, hitting seven boundaries on his way to the milestone.

There's obviously a long way to go yet but, by our maths, no 16-year-old has ever gone on to make a County Championship century...

  10. wicket

Bears all out at Derbypublished at 11:23 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

    Derbyshire v Warwickshire 274

Warwickshire managed just two more runs to their overnight 272-9 before being bowled out by Derbyshire.

Craig Miles gets both of them before becoming a second victim for Michael Cohen.

  11. No play at Chelmsfordpublished at 11:20 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

    Essex v Notts 248-6

As we said earlier, just as at Lord's for the Test match, it's a wet start 30 miles away at Chelmsford too.

No prospects yet as to when umpires Ian Blackwell and Neil Mallender might consider convening a start.

  12. Postpublished at 11:11 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

    Yorkshire v Sussex 270-6

Yorkshire have struck early on the second morning at Headingley - and it's the key wicket.

Ben Brown's superb knock comes to an end as Ben Coad removes the Sussex wicketkeeper for 127.

He struck 18 boundaries during his 177-ball stay.

  13. wicket

Glamorgan all out in Cardiffpublished at 11:09 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

    Lancashire 173 v Glamorgan 150

The Glamorgan innings is over in Cardiff - and Lancashire have somehow escaped from being bowled out for just 173 on Thursday with a 23-run lead.

After 19 wickets were shared around by the bowlers on day one, the Glamorgan innings is actually ended by a run-out.

    A second-ball run-out at that.

Michael Neser called for a sharp single which deflected to mid on, Michael Hogan was slow to respond running to the seemingly safer wicket-keeper's end and was comfortably run out by a sharp piece of work from Tom Bailey - not Alex Davies, as was the incorrect information originally supplied to the official scorers.

  14. rain stops play

Postpublished at 11:02 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

As you can see, there's going to be some unsettled weather across the south east during the day and that's led to delayed starts at both Chelmsford and Canterbury.

As it happens, the start to the second day of the first Test between England and New Zealand at Lord's has also been delayed.

  15. We're under waypublished at 11:00 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

With play just beginning to get under way around the grounds, here's a look at today's weather outlook...

  16. Postpublished at 10:57 British Summer Time 4 June 2021

    Worcestershire 131 v Durham 140-4

    Dan Wheeler
    BBC Hereford & Worcester

Is it too premature to say that Worcestershire's hopes of a top-two County Championship Group One finish hinge on today?

There's no doubt that day one was a sobering experience after the euphoria of last week's excellent disposal of Derbyshire.

Thanks to Josh Tongue's late rockets, they had some momentum by stumps. But that will evaporate into the New Road sunshine unless they can back it up with more early successes.

With the country's leading run scorer David Bedingham walking out this morning, the danger of Durham's slender lead growing into a match-winning one is very real.
