for Jack Leaningpublished at 17:35 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Lancashire 259-9 dec v Kent & 146-8

Jack Leaning rocks onto the back foot and cuts Tom Hartley for four to reach his half-century off 176 balls. This has been a tremendous effort for his side by the former Yorkshire player.

  3. Postpublished at 17:34 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Lancashire 259-9 dec v Kent 72 & 142-8

A maiden from Danny Lamb to James Logan. There are a minimum of seven overs left, but Lancashire may be able to squeeze one of two more in if they look sharp. Jack Leaning is 49 not out and Logan has three. Kent are still 43 behind but that may not matter now. It's all about the last two wickets for Lancashire.

  4. wicket

WICKET Handscomb lbw Worrall 14published at 17:30 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

Middx 56-3 need 420 to beat Glos

The Ghandi tactics - resisting by not resisting - have failed for Peter Handscomb.

Dan Worrall nips one back and catches his fellow Australian on the knee roll on the popping crease.

    The Glosters have the breakthrough.

21 overs remain - only day three remember at Cheltenham so time is no issue.

  5. Postpublished at 17:29 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Hampshire 488 v Surrey 72 & 108-7

Six runs from the latest Felix Organ over but Hampshire will take some encouragement. Jamie Overton edged one past first slip for four and it doesn't look like blocking his his preferred method of dealing with this situation. There are 15 overs to come.

  6. Postpublished at 17:27 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

Middx 55-2 need 420 to beat Glos

Stevie Eskinazi and Peter Handscomb have certainly calmed Middlesex.

An extraordinary hour of play has seen only three runs scored in 14 overs!

36 overs left in the day is a touch early to be playing for the close.

But so far they're keeping the Glosters at bay.

    Keith BarkerImage source, Rex Features

Keith Barker comes in again and is that finally the end of Hashim Amla - no, Ian Holland can't hang onto the chance at leg-slip. If the home side don't win this game, that might be the moment that costs them.

  8. Postpublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Hampshire 488 v Surrey 72 & 102-7

A rare Surrey boundary by Jamie Overton, driven square off Felix Organ, and their total reaches three figures after 88 overs. The run rate is 1.15 - but that's a furious pace after this morning's crawl.

  9. wicket

WICKET Clark lbw Barker 4published at 17:13 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Hampshire 488 v Surrey 72 & 97-7

    Jordan ClarkImage source, Rex Features

Keith Barker charges in again and there is his third wicket as Jordan Clark is leg before. The ball seemed to keep a little low and Clark was struck on the back leg, leaving the umpire no option.

Barker is in his 20th over and now has 3-6. Jamie Overton is the new Surrey batsman.

What a catch at short leg!

A thick inside edge from the left-handed Joe Cooke and it's grabbed by Aaron Thomason's left-hand.

Sussex as giddy as hot-air balloonists on a clear evening.

    19 overs left for them.

Glam 92-3 need 275 to beat Sussex

Glamorgan need 183 in 21 overs so there's no chance of them winning now.

But can Sussex find another seven wickets?

It's been the spin duo of Jack Carson and Will Beer for quite a while now.

  14. wicket

And there's the first of the three Kent need. Two balls after removing Matt Milnes, Tom Hartley spins one past Harry Podmore's forward defensive stroke and hits off stump. Still 17 overs for Kent to survive after this one.

  15. wicket

WICKET Milnes c Vilas b Hartley 2published at 16:58 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Lancashire 259-9 dec v Kent 74 & 134-7

Great work by Dane Vilas as Matt Milnes is squared up by a turning delivery from Tom Hartley and edges to the keeper. Lancashire need three more wickets with Kent still 51 runs behind.

Following the draw between Warwickshire and Durham, here's the updated Group One table.

What it means is that Essex's chances of adding to their 2019 Championship and 2020 Bob Willis Trophy triumphs are fading.

The highest number of points they can achieve is 142, so six points for Notts and 12 for Warwickshire and their title hopes will be ended.

With a casual flick of the wrists Billy Root sweeps Jack Carson for six over midwicket.

But revenge arrives in Carson's next over as Root drives at a ball that turns away from the left-hander and an edge via the wicketkeeper's thigh finds slip.

    25 more overs remain.

  19. wicket

Darren Stevens plays down the wrong line, expecting a little turn from Luke Wells which doesn't happen, and is lbw. Kent need another 56 to avoid an innings defeat as Matt Milnes arrives at the crease.

  20. WARWICKSHIRE DRAW WITH DURHAMpublished at 16:38 British Summer Time 7 July 2021

    Warwickshire 237 v Durham 253-7
