  1. Yorkshire statement on today's abandonmentpublished at 18:17 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Lancashire 411-2 v Yorkshire

"Following a large amount of rain throughout the day and during the night on Monday, the start of day three of the Roses game at Emerald Headingley was delayed.

"Play then began at midday but only 23.2 overs were possible before the umpires brought the players off the field due to an unfit and unsafe outfield.

"Play was later abandoned for the day with the conditions not having improved sufficiently.

The entire second day's play in the Roses match was washed out in LeedsImage source, Rex Features

"Umpires Ian Gould and Nigel Llong deemed the outfield fit for a 12pm start, but conditions worsened as the afternoon went on with water rising to the surface in some of the key playing areas where the most activity had taken place, including on the bowler’s run-ups. This was primarily at the Emerald Stand (Rugby Stand) of the ground.

"Analysis of the outfield at that end has previously taken place and has identified issues with a layer of thatch that can cause a build-up of water on the surface following heavy rain-fall.

"The club had originally planned to get the outfield re-laid prior to the 2021 season but unfortunately difficulties arising due to the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in this being delayed. The club intend on completing this work at the end of this season."

  2. wicket

Clark c Hildreth b van der Merwepublished at 18:14 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Surrey 233-7 v Somerset 429

Jordan Clark and Rikki Clarke had performed a decent repair job from 191-6 for Surrey but their partnership is over.

Clark is the man to go, caught in the slips by Somerset stalwart James Hildreth to give Roelof van der Merwe his second wicket of the day.

Somerset are already through to Division One, of course, but they will want to round off Group Two with a win and top spot.

  3. wicket

    Compton c Jones b Salisbury 20published at 18:11 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Notts 328 & 85-2

A second Notts wicket at Chester-le-Street - and a third wicket of the game for Matt Salisbury, who removes Ben Compton for 20.

Haseeb Hameed is still there on 38.

  4. 50 runs

50 stand for Barnard & Finchpublished at 18:07 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Bears 395, Pears 391-8

Worcestershire almost have a first-innings lead here. They are now just four runs behind.

An excellent effort from Ed Barnard, who is now on 83, within 17 runs of his second ton of the summer, and Adam Finch is on 20.

Teenage spinner Josh Baker is still padded up, waiting for his first bat in first-class cricket.

  5. 50 runs

50 stand for Eskinazi & Harrispublished at 18:03 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Middlesex 324 & 132-6

Astonishing effort from a limping Steve Esikinazi, virtually on one leg.

Batting with Max Holden as his runner, after being forced to retire hurt with an upper leg injury in the first innings, he has now batted for almost two and a half hours.

He is now on 33. James Harris is on 13.

Middlesex are yet to reveal the full extent of the injury, which is thought to be a strain or tear to his right adductor muscle - or thigh, to the layman.

  6. 'He's a tough cookie is Dom Leech'published at 17:56 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Lancashire 411-2 v Yorkshire

Yorkshire coach Andrew Gale has shed a bit more light on the freak injury suffered by fast bowler Dom Leech.

After slipping on a stretch of wet outfield that ultimately caused the abandonment of the day's play, Gale was tended both by Lancashire physio Sam Byrne and Yorkshire's Kunwar Bansil.

“Our physio has taken Dom to hospital in his car," said Gale. "The ambulance said they would take two hours. That’s all we know really.

“Whether it’s the slip that’s caused it and it’s something functional with the knee or whether hitting the concrete is what’s caused it, I don’t know.

“In many ways, I hope it’s a break rather than a tear in the ligament or something. You have to feel for the lad.

"It’s the first Championship game he’s played in the first team. He’s a tough cookie is Dom, and he was in a lot of pain. It was sad to see. Hopefully he’ll be ok.”

  7. wicket

    Orr c Lincoln b Singh 119published at 17:50 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Kent 165 v Sussex 181 & 209-1

The end of a simply brilliant innings from Sussex youngster Ali Orr.

It took a great catch from Dan Lincoln to dismiss the 20-year-old as debutant Kent teenager Jas Singh claims his fifth wicket of the match.

But that's a brilliant century for Orr - one to really keep an eye on. He's hit two 50s and now a ton in his first three Championship appearances.

  8. Postpublished at 17:47 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Glos 229 & 75-3 v Hants 486-7 dec

Some real heart-in-mouth moments for Gloucestershire batsman Tom Lace, facing Kyle Abbott.

An inside edge just misses wicketkeeper Lewis McManus and goes for four, then there are two big lbw shouts after he's twice wrapped on the pads.

Nothing doing from the umpire on either occasion.

  9. Where did it all go wrong for Durham?published at 17:38 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Notts 324 & 56-1, Durham 165

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Durham brought the boundaries in for this game, the idea being that it would benefit them in their pursuit of maximum batting bonus points. They didn't get any.

And they then had no answer to 19-year-old Joey Evison, who took four wickets for five runs in four overs at one point in his career-best 5-21.

Durham were 73-2 at lunch but when David Bedingham fell LBW in the first over after the resumption, to Evison's fifth ball, they collapsed, losing their last eight wickets for 88 runs.

While Notts' three bowling points, to add to their three batting points, secures their Division One place when the season resumes in September, Durham need a win and a Warwickshire defeat, otherwise they are heading into Division Two with Essex.

And, as a result of losing both games to Essex, they will take few points with them after the split.

  10. wicket

    Bracey b Abbott 8published at 17:35 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Glos 229 & 68-3 v Hants 486-7 dec

    Gigantic trouble for Gloucestershire.

Skipper James Bracey has gone, his defences breached and bails blitzed by a cracking ball from Kyle Abbott.

Hampshire surely huge favourites to seal the second Division One qualification spot behind Somerset in Group Two now - they lead by 189 and Gloucestershire's seven remaining batsmen have to bat out the rest of today and entirety of tomorrow.

  11. 200 runs

200 partnerships for Sussex and Glamorganpublished at 17:30 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

Sussex and Glamorgan are synchronising everything today.

That's 200 for Kiran Carlson (116no) and skipper Chris Cooke (85no) as they are laying absolute waste to Northants at 360-4 in Cardiff.

And the exact same milestone has been brought up by Sussex duo Ali Orr (115no) and Tom Haines (77no) as they reach 202-0 in their second innings at Kent.

Surely both of those sides cannot lose now - is there enough time today and tomorrow for them to win?

  12. 50 runs

50 up for Nottspublished at 17:25 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Notts 324 & 50-1, Durham 165

Haseeb Hameed is on 27 and Ben Compton has just a single to his name as Notts go past 50 in their second dig.

They now lead Durham by 213 runs for only the loss of Ben Slater, who was caught behind off Matty Potts for 19.

  13. Postpublished at 17:14 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

Full details here of the Yorkshire-Lancashire abandonment.

Play was suspended on the third day of Yorkshire's match against Lancashire because of "unfit and unsafe" areas of the Headingley outfield after an injury to Dom Leech.

"Water has risen to the surface in key areas, including the bowlers' run-ups," said a Yorkshire statement.

Play Up Pompey: I hope Gloucestershire aren't playing The Bay City Rollers over the tannoy at Cheltenham today. "Bye, bye, baby. Baby, 48 byes".

Yes, Gloucestershire's earlier generosity has not aided their cause. They really have to dig in now, they need one of their batsmen to tell his partner I Only Wanna Be With You...

Half-century for Ed Barnardpublished at 17:12 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Bears 395, Pears 351-8

Ed Barnard's fifth first-class half-century of the season has nudged Worcestershire almost to parity with Warwickshire.

He is now on to 62, supported by Adam Finch (5).

Barnard has been bumped up the order to number six by the Pears this season - and he has really responded.

    Scott c Holland b Crane 29published at 17:07 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Glos 229 & 54-2 v Hants 486-7 dec

    Not so great, Scott.

Trailing by more than 200 in your second innings in a sudden-death decider to determine who qualifies for Division One.

You would fancy caution to be the order of the day - and, generally, it has been.

But George Scott has a mind-freeze, decides to try to smash spinner Mason Crane but instead becomes his second victim as Ian Holland takes the catch.

The runs keep coming for Sussex and Glamorgan.

Glamorgan's Kiran Carlson has his seventh first-class century - and his third of the season - as the Northants bowlers continue to take a pounding in Cardiff, the hosts now on 333-4 in reply to 215.

And it's a moment Sussex opener Ali Orr will never forget, the 20-year-old registering his maiden first-class century in only his third match. Sussex are flying at 178-0 in their second innings against Kent.

  18. 100 runs

100 up for Middlesexpublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Middlesex 324 & 102-6

A worthy effort from Steve Eskinazi at Merchant Taylors' School.

Batting with Max Holden as his runner, after being forced to retire hurt with a leg injury in the first innings, he has so far lasted almost an hour and a half.

That has helped him and Harris to see Middlesex past 100, a bit of a recovery from being 17-4, then 82-6.

He has hit three fours to move on to 19, and has so far put on 20 with James Harris.

Middlesex now lead Leicestershire by 198 runs - with four wickets in hand. A lot harder now for the Foxes to win from here.

  19. Five-wicket haul for Jack Leachpublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Surrey 191-6 v Somerset 429

"Hey, remember me?" Jack Leach is saying to the England selectors.

A fantastic five-fer for the Somerset spinner who is tearing through the Surrey top order.

Ryan Patel misjudges a sweep and Devon Conway takes a second catch since tea was served.

Would you choose Leach for the Test series against India? Thumbs up for yes, thumbs down for no.

    Hammond b Crane 15published at 16:46 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Glos 229 & 47-1 v Hants 486-7 dec

A big breakthrough at Cheltenham. Big for Division One hopefuls Hampshire.

Miles Hammond survives an lbw appeal the ball previous but then sees his bail clipped off by spinner Mason Crane. Nice delivery.

James Bracey in and the Gloucestershire captain will be hoping for better luck with the bat than he had with the gloves after conceding 48 byes in the Hampshire innings.
