    Glos 229 v Hants 458-6

Ryan Higgins raises his arms in a 'what's going on?' gesture after four more byes race by, with James Bracey virtually motionless behind the stumps.

The Gloucestershire skipper takes his helmet off for a few moments. He's really under it here.

  2. Leech injured in Leeds incidentpublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Lancashire 411-2 v Yorkshire

    Scott Read
    BBC Radio Lancashire

The players have been taken off at Emerald Headingley after an incident involving Yorkshire's Dom Leech.

The fast bowler has been taken off on a stretcher, leaving the ground behind the rugby stand after appearing to slip on the soft ground beyond the boundary rope.

He appeared to fall into the concert barrier where the advertising boards are.

He received lengthily treatment from the medical staff.

Umpires Ian Gould and Nigel Llong have since called an early tea.

  3. Emmerson on Evison . . .published at 14:41 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Notts 328, Durham 100-6

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

Durham have collapsed since lunch, with those four wickets for nine runs in the space of six overs and 19-year-old Joey Evison has taken them all to earn career-best figures in only his fourth game.

David Bedingham was the first to go for, LBW, before Sean Dickson skied to keeper Joe Clarke for a duck.

After edging Evison to the slips, only to see Brett Hutton spill a really low and sharp chance when he was on 38, Scott Borthwick did the same thing two balls later and was out. And Ned Eckersley went second ball, LBW for a duck while playing across the line.

Evison actually appealed to umpire Neil Pratt while sitting on the floor!

Durham decided to opt for really small boundaries here of just 60 yards, in the belief it would aid the scoring of bonus points. At 100-6 they are a long way from a batting point and that plan may well backfire.

  4. 50 runs

50 for Ali Orrpublished at 14:38 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Kent 165 v Sussex 181 & 84-0

Easy this batting lark, says Sussex's 20-year-old opener Ali Orr.

This is his third County Championship match - and his third half-century.

Impressive from the youngster and it's put Sussex in control in a battle of two very youthful sides at Canterbury.

  5. Postpublished at 14:34 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Glos 229 v Hants 441-6

The lead is 200-plus now for Hampshire, who are absolutely flying.

Nick Gubbins smashes Tom Price for six, Keith Barker hits two fours off Dan Worrall.

Oh and the extras count rises to 73 after more byes. That's 25 off the Championship record, remember. An unwanted record it would be.

  6. 150 runs

150 stand for Wells & Bohannonpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Lancashire 411-2 v Yorkshire

Lancashire in total control in Leeds in the Roses match.

They are now past 400 - and Luke Wells and Josh Bohannon have shared 155 for the third wicket.

Wells is just three away from a first century for Lancashire - and the Tykes remain wicketless today.

  7. wicket

Eckersley lbw Evison 0published at 14:26 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Notts 328, Durham 86-6

Two wickets in three deliveries for Joey Evison as Ned Eckersley goes second ball.

Four wickets gone down for just nine runs now - all to Evison - in the space of 38 balls.

His latest trio of victims, Sean Dickson, Scott Borthwick and Eckersley were three in 10 balls.

Four LBWs in the innings - and second bowling point for rampant Notts.

Durham's already slim title hopes are slipping away fast.

James McCaghrey: The County Championship record for most extras in an innings is 98 by Essex against Northamptonshire in 1999. 17 byes, 17 leg byes, 48 no balls, 16 wides.

Wow, quickfire response from James in answer to our request for the record number of extras in a Championship game. Gloucestershire are on 68 against Hampshire. Well short of the record then...

50 partnership for Glamorganpublished at 14:20 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Glamorgan 216-4 v Northants 215

Glamorgan have overtaken Northants' first-innings total with six wickets in hand thanks to a 50 partnership between Kiran Carlson and captain Chris Cooke.

Plenty of time for the hosts to build a decent lead and take firm control of this one. They're on the way.

    Middlesex 324 & 17-4, Leicestershire 228

A fourth wicket for Middlesex, a third wicket for Will Davis and a third catch for Colin Ackermann.

Added to the fact that Steve Eskinazi retired hurt in the first innings and has not yet batted, the home lead of only 116 suddenly looks a little precarious.

Eight scalps in the match now for Foxes paceman Davis.

  12. wicket

    Dickson c Clarke b Evison 0published at 14:13 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Notts 328, Durham 85-4

A 13-ball duck for Sean Dickson at Chester-le Street.

Needing to get on with it a bit, in a bid to reach 400 and collect maximum batting points, he tries to hook Joey Evison to get off the mark - and top edges to wicketkeeper Joe Clarke, in the slip cordon.

A second wicket for Evison. Figures of 3-1-5-2 since lunch. An inspired change.

Scott Borthwick is on 37, joined now by Jack Burnham. But that 400 target looks a long way off.

  13. 50 runs

50 for Mark Stonemanpublished at 14:11 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Surrey 112-1 v Somerset 429

A second half-century for Surrey as Mark Stoneman moves to 51, one better than fellow opener Rory Burns managed.

Most of his runs have come via boundaries, having hit 10 fours.

A nice knock from the one-time England batsman.

    Notts 328, Durham 77-3

Big wicket at Chester-le-Street as Joey Evison earns Notts' third LBW decision of Durham's reply.

And this is the biggest of them all, David Bedingham, the country's leading run scorer, for just 30.

Sean Dickson has come in to join skipper Scott Borthwick, who has now moved on to 37.

    Glos 229 v Hants 401-6

The Gloucestershire extra count has risen to an extraordinary 68 by the way.

I would love to know the record for most extras conceded in a County Championship match - anyone out there know?

Drop us a line on Twitter using #bbccricket if you do.

Of those 68, there have been 36 byes - not a great couple of days for Gloucestershire wicketkeeper James Bracey, albeit the blame must be shared with the bowlers too.

His display is being questioned by the chaps on BBC local radio comms.

  16. 100 runs

100 for Nick Gubbinspublished at 14:01 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Glos 229 v Hants 401-6

A 10th career first-class century for Nick Gubbins - and his first for Hampshire in only his second match for the county since joining on loan from Middlesex earlier this month.

It's been a real reward for a patient, disciplined effort - at one stage yesterday evening he had taken 70 deliveries to reach 10 runs.

That was after a Hampshire wobble but he's certainly steadied the ship and the visitors are now past 400, closing in on a 200 lead.

  17. Another two gone at Merchant Taylors'published at 13:55 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Middlesex 324 & 6-3, Leicestershire 228

They're back underway at Merchant Taylors' School - and two more wickets have gone.

After losing Sam Robson to the last ball of the morning session, his opening partner Josh de Caires went to the fifth ball after the resumption bowled by Abidine Sakande, followed by Max Holden two balls later, to the first ball of Will Davis's third over.

    Carnage in the home counties.

Joe Cracknell and Daryl Mitchell are the two men trying to repair the damage.

Not much riding on this meeting of the Group Two bottom two, other than Leicestershire gaining a victory that would earn them a place in Division Two when the County Championship resumes in September.

But Middlesex will be very glad right now of that 96-run first-innings lead.

  18. Postpublished at 13:53 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

With the points earned from matches between the top two carried through to Division One, Somerset are now cheering on Hampshire.

That's because Somerset registered a win and a draw against Hampshire - while Gloucestershire inflicted the leaders' only loss as well as drawing the reverse fixture.

  19. Progress overshadows Oval opening sessionpublished at 13:50 British Summer Time 13 July 2021

    Surrey 99-1 v Somerset 429

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Somerset

The most important moment of Somerset's morning came not here at the Kia Oval, but 135 miles away on the College Ground at Cheltenham, where the 110th over of Hampshire's innings finished with them still 24 runs short of a fourth batting point.

It meant that in the event of a draw - the only result that could deny Somerset Division One status come September - Hampshire could do no better than equal Somerset's total of 137 points, which would mean Somerset going through with the higher number of wins.

All of which rather overshadowed a quiet morning's cricket, in which Rory Burns completed a serene half-century before top-edging Roelof van der Merwe to give Jack Leach a catch at long leg.

We wait to see if these two sides will set up some sort of finish, as an alternative to what otherwise threatens to be a dull draw.
