A few more twists and turns in the County Championship title race today.

Division One leaders Notts will be happy to have bowled out Hampshire for 226 and then reached stumps for the loss of Haseeb Hameed.

There were 18 wickets in a day of hectic action at Headingley, with Yorkshire still 60 in arrears at the close, while Lancashire are on top against Somerset after Luke Wells (see photo) hit 103.

We will be back with you at about 10:10 on Monday morning for the second day's play.

  3. Close of play at the Ageas Bowlpublished at 18:18 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hampshire 226 v Nottinghamshire 29-1

Umpires Martin Saggers and Mike Burns decide the light isn't good enough for the final three overs and that's it for the day at the Ageas Bowl.

Notts made good use of the conditions to bowl out Hampshire in 82,2 overs and extend their lead over them by a further two points.

Nick Gubbins top scored with 54 after a couple of let-offs, but there was no such luck for England's Haseeb Hameed, who managed only two before being caught behind off Keith Barker at the start of the Notts reply.

    All to play for tomorrow.

  4. Bad light stops playpublished at 18:09 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hampshire 226 v Nottinghamshire 29-1

Ben Slater edges Mohammad Abbas past the slip cordon for four. There should be three more overs to come, but the umpires are not satisfied with the light. Is that it for the day?

  5. Close of play at Northamptonpublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Northamptonshire 183 v Durham 108-4

Scott Borthwick and Graham Clark survive the final over at Wantage Road and Durham will be hopeful of establishing a first-innings lead on day two.

Borthwick has 54 from 115 balls faced and Clark (23) has helped add 59 after the visitors had been reduced for 49-4.

The Northants first innings was based around a partnership of 66 between Luke Procter (76) and James Sales (38 not out).

  6. Postpublished at 18:05 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hampshire 226 v Nottinghamshire 25-1

Here comes Keith Barker again and Ben Duckett clips his first ball away through mid-wicket for four runs. No risk involved in that stroke.

Duckett takes a couple later in the over and that's another safely negotiated by Notts. Four more to come.

  7. Close of play at Sophia Gardenspublished at 18:02 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Glamorgan 264-6 v Gloucestershire

No late drama in Cardiff as Eddie Byrom (60 not out) and Andrew Salter (26 not out) survive until stumps.

Their 73-run partnership has frustrated Gloucestershire who still have work to do tomorrow morning.

  8. Postpublished at 18:00 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hampshire 226 v Nottinghamshire 19-1

Solid defence by Ben Slater. Another Mohammad Abbas over is done. Five left at the Ageas Bowl.

  9. Close of play at Derbypublished at 17:58 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Derbyshire 1-1 v Kent 285

What a way to end Day One as Grant Stewart bowls Harry Came off his first ball of the innings.

Derbyshire will resume on 1-1 after 1.1 overs tomorrow, after Kent were 285 all out this afternoon.

Jack Leaning was star for the visitors, finishing stranded on 82 not out off 167 balls.

  10. Postpublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hampshire 226 v Nottinghamshire 19-1

Keith Barker sends down a maiden to Ben Duckett.

Ben Slater, on 14 not out, will face up to Mohammad Abbas with six overs left before the close.

  11. Close of play at Lord'spublished at 17:55 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    D3: Middlesex 144 v Worcestershire 113-8

Eighteen wickets in the day at the home of cricket.

After making 676-5 declared last week, Middlesex lasted only 51 overs, despite Max Holden's 52 as Ed Barnard took 4-43 for Worcestershire.

The visitors didn't find batting any easier, slumping to 44-6 before Gareth Roderick made 42. Tim Murtagh has taken 4-37 for Middlesex, who are 31 ahead with two Worcestershire wickets left.

  12. Close of play at Kia Ovalpublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    D2: Surrey v Essex 299-3

Alastair Cook takes a single off Will Jacks and that is that for day one with Essex just one run short of their third batting point.

Cook carries his bat through the day for an unbeaten 140, made from 280 balls with 18 fours.

It is the 69th first-class century of the former England captain's career and he was well supported by Dan Lawrence (78) and Tom Westley (47).

  13. Close of play at Tauntonpublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Somerset v Lancashire 364-8

Lancashire have bossed day one with plenty of runs on the board. I'd say they're well ahead of par and will be targeting 400 tomorrow morning.

Tom Bailey (54) survives until stumps, he'll be joined by Jack Blatherwick (one) when we resume.

Man of the day though is undoubtedly Luke Wells who got his first century of the season. He was eventually out for 103.

  14. Close of play at Headingleypublished at 17:46 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Yorkshire 95-8 v Warwickshire 155

The light isn't getting any better so stumps have been called at Headingley.

Yorkshire's morning - bowling their opponents all out in the opening session - but it's Warwickshire's afternoon.

They lead by 60 runs with two wickets left to end Yorkshire's first innings.

How good does Michael Burgess' 66 for the Bears look in the context of this match?

WICKETpublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hameed c Alsop b Barker 2 (Hampshire 226 v Notts 11-1)

    Gone.

England's opener plays an orthodox forward defensive as Keith Barker delivers the ball from round the wicket, but it take takes the edge and keeper Tom Alsop moves to his right to take the catch.

Ben Duckett comes out in his allotted number three position.

  16. Postpublished at 17:44 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hampshire 226 v Nottinghamshire11-0

Ben Slater opens the face slightly to a ball from Mohammad Abbas and there's the first boundary of the Notts innings down to third man. There should be nine overs to come but it's getting increasingly murky.

  17. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Croft c Davies b de Lange 71 (Somerset v Lancashire 363-8)

    Finally got him.

With just eight balls left in the day Marchant de Lange has the wicket he's deserved.

Steven Croft edges behind to fall for a brilliant 71 off 136.

And number 10 Jack Blatherwick finally walks out to bat.

  18. wicket

WICKETpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

Lawrence lbw Moriarty 78 (Surrey v Essex 294-3)

Dan Lawrence tries to play left-arm spinner to leg but makes no contact and the umpire decides it has straightened enough to give him out lbw.

Disappointing end for the England batsman following a stand of 145 with Alastair Cook, who is 140 not out and has been joined by nightwatchman Jamie Porter.

  19. Postpublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Hampshire 226 v Nottinghamshire 3-0

If things had gone according to plan Haseeb Hameed would have been playing for England against India at Old Trafford.

The cancellation of the fifth Test made him available for Notts and he is off the mark with a single in Keith Barker's opening over, with two to partner Ben Slater.

  20. Bad light stops playpublished at 17:37 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    Yorkshire 95-8 v Warwickshire 155

    Could that be that?

The players are off for bad light at Headingley with 12.2 overs remaining and Yorkshire trailing by 60.
