Who will follow Haines' lead?published at 10:20 British Summer Time 12 September 2021
Sussex opener Tom Haines sneaked up on the blindside on Monday to become the first player to score 1,000 runs in this season's Championship.
David Bedingham (Durham), Jake Libby (Worcestershire) and Sam Robson (Middlesex) all had chances to beat him to four figures, but it was Haines who did so with scores of 156 and 87 to reach 1,030.
Bedingham, Libby and Robson need another eight, 24 and 27 respectively and a couple of decent scores by Matt Critchley (Derbyshire) and Kiran Carlson (Glamorgan) could also see them reach 1,000 by season's end.
Surprisingly, perhaps, the closest to a 1,000 among the Division One teams vying for the title is Lancashire's Josh Bohannon with 772.
