The first real chance Luke Wells concedes as he top edges Marchant de Lange to the boundary. Azhar Ali sprints round but can't hold on to the ball at full stretch.

The ball goes for four and Wells moves on to 88.

You feel that needed to stick for Somerset.

    Glamorgan 122-0 v Gloucestershire

Life continues to be a bit of a breeze for the Glamorgan openers in the Division Two game in Cardiff and Hamish Rutherford reaches a 93-ball fifty by turning David Payne off his hip for two runs. David Lloyd is 65 not out at the ither end.

    Hampshire 69-3 v Nottinghamshire

There has certainly been a show of attacking intent by James Vince since lunch at the Ageas Bowl and Dane Paterson's latest over brings him two more boundaries - neither of them totally convincing.

The first is driven through the covers, but Vince's front foot is nowhere near the pitch of the ball, and the second is a thick edge down towards third man.

More runs for Luke Wells who now moves on to 77, pushing one through the covers for four.

Somerset need to break this partnership, and fast.

England's Zak Crawley sweeps Matt Critchley for four to bring up his sixth Championship fifty of the season, this one taking 89 balls.

Ali Orr is caughtImage source, Rex Features

A good morning for Sussex, who having won the toss and decided to bat, reached 116-1 at lunch for the loss of just one wicket.

Alistair Orr was the man out, brilliantly caught one-handed by Ed Barnes at fine leg, but not before Orr and his skipper Tom Haines had added 106 for the first wicket.

Haines reached his sixth half-century of the season just before lunch, and on a pitch offering little help to the bowlers, Leicestershire may well regret dropping Ben Brown just before lunch when he had made just three.

Just a quick reminder of the Division One title picture.

Nottinghamshire began today's games with a 10.5 point lead over both Hampshire (who they are playing) and Yorkshire, and have picked up one bowling point so far at the Ageas Bowl.

Yorkshire, though, have cut their advantage by one as they have earned two points by taking seven Warwickshire wickets this morning.

  14. 'Good toss to lose' for Durhampublished at 12:53 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    D2: Northamptonshire 91-5 v Durham - lunch

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle commentator

Northants won the toss and decided to bowl on a beautiful autumnal morning at Wantage Road, but by lunch they were five down.

Chris Rushworth took the first three wickets in an eight over spell which reduced the hosts to 55-3 and now has 54 for the season.

Ricardo Vasconcelos (4), Emilio Gay (17) and Saif Zaib (10) were caught behind while Rob Keogh edged to third slip on nine and Adam Rossington (10) left a delivery from Matty Potts which seamed in and struck his back pad.

There's been quite a bit of seam movement and a bit of uneven bounce. From a Durham point of view it was a good toss to lose.

  15. Somerset 'fail to build pressure'published at 12:50 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    D1: Somerset v Lancashire 127-2 - lunch

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Somerset commentator

Not for the first time at Taunton, a captain has been deceived by a green, well-grassed pitch into putting the opposition in, and not reaping anything like the rewards he was expecting.

In this case, however, Somerset's bowlers, minus Craig Overton, Josh Davey and Jack Leach have been complicit in making it Lancashire's morning, offering up too many four balls and failing to build pressure on the batsmen.

Whatever slim hopes of challenging for the Championship Somerset may still be entertaining have all but disappeared in another very disappointing session.

  16. Glamorgan openers 'relatively untroubled'published at 12:47 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    D2: Glamorgan 107-0 v Gloucestershire - lunch

    David LloydImage source, Rex Features

A first session dominated by Glamorgan left visiting captain Chris Dent wondering why a green-tinged pitch had failed to produce much assistance for his bowlers.

After two weeks of batting nightmares, David Lloyd (60) and Hamish Rutherford (43) looked relatively untroubled for most of the session.

Lloyd should have gone on 15 when Tom Lace put down a relatively simple chest-high catch at slip off Ryan Higgins, but Gloucestershire did not create any further chances as Lloyd reached his 50 off 72 balls.

The visitors’ sixth bowler, Ben Charlesworth, had only sent down eight deliveries when he retreated to the pavilion clutching his left side.

They are giving a Championship debut to 21-year-old wicketkeeper Ben Wells, while Glamorgan have seamer Ruaidhri Smith playing his first four-day game of an injury-hit season.

  17. 'Stark contrast' for Middlesexpublished at 12:44 British Summer Time 12 September 2021

    D3: Middlesex 81-5 v Worcestershire - lunch

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London commentator

A grassy surface and a 10:30 start in September have proved perfect for Worcestershire. who have extracted every last bit out of the morning session.

Joe Leach picked up the first and the last wickets of the session with a fine and accurate spell of seam bowling - and the middle wicket of his three was Sam Robson, who couldn't keep out a ball nipping back down the slope.

Middlesex hit their highest first class score at Hove last week, but today is a stark contrast and the only consolation is there aren't heavy overhead conditions to go with the seam-friendly track.

Despite, that, Division One leaders Notts will feel satisfied with their morning's work, which has brought them three wickets - one each for Brett Hutton, Luke Fletcher and Dane Paterson.
