  1. wicket

WICKET Gregory c Burgess b Miles 31published at 16:17 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    Warwickshire v Somerset 149-9 (Target 273)

They didn't have to wait long!

Lewis Gregory's eyes light up when Craig Miles drops short but the ball gets up and Gregory's slash is athletically taken by Michael Burgess behind the stumps.

Here comes last man Jack Brooks. Warwickshire on the brink of glory!

  2. Two wickets to win the titlepublished at 16:16 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    Warwickshire v Somerset 149-8 (Target 273)

    Almost the ninth!

Liam Norwell forces Josh Davey into a genuine edge, which bounces an inch or two short of Sam Hain at second slip.

We're moving towards early handshakes you feel at The Oval....

But not before Surrey and England wicketkeeper Ben Foakes reaches a half-century off 95 balls with his eighth four.

  4. 30 overs to gopublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    Warwickshire v Somerset 141-8 (Target 273)

    Back to the serious stuff...

Josh Davey and Lewis Gregory showing some decent fight here for Somerset. Not sure it will be enough, though.

  5. Chris Cooke becomes Glamorgan's 11th bowlerpublished at 16:07 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    Surrey 701-4 v Glamorgan 672-6 dec

This is well and truly "village" now....

Glamorgan wicketkeeper Chris Cooke is sharing the third new ball.

    I give up....

  6. Change of wicketkeeper for Glamorganpublished at 16:05 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    Surrey 701-4 v Glamorgan 672-6 dec

It's well and truly end-of-season silly stuff now at The Oval.

Glamorgan wicketkeeper Chris Cooke has dispensed with the gloves and pads and handed them to fast bowler Michael Hogan.

Four leg byes off the man who has taken the third new ball, Kiran Carlson, means Surrey have passed 700 and equalled their highest first-class total against Glamorgan.

Rikki Clarke meanwhile is 8 not out off 29 balls.

  8. Meaningless runspublished at 16:03 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    Warwickshire v Somerset 138-8 (Target 273)

This ninth-wicket partnership has quickly accrued 32 runs in a handful of overs, with Lewis Gregory cracking half-a-dozen boundaries. It's the highest stand of the innings.

Let's be honest, the runs don't really matter now. It's two wickets for Warwickshire in 32 overs.

  10. Almost a run-outpublished at 15:48 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    Warwickshire v Somerset 121-8 (Target 273)

Josh Davey taps and sets off but Lewis Gregory is not interested.

Dom Sibley swoops and just misses the stumps when Davey would have been run out. Not sure Warwickshire need any gifts to get the job done.

Alex Landon: Lancashire fans starting to feel how I felt on the last day of the 2010 season… #BBCCricket

I'm guessing Alex is a Somerset fan. Of course, that year they finished level on points with Nottinghamshire but the East Midlands county took the title by virtue of more wins. And Somerset have still not won the County Championship 11 years on.

  12. Two wickets to win the titlepublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    Warwickshire v Somerset 110-8 (Target 373)

Josh Davey comes out at number ten.

There are four leg byes to add to the total, but none against Woakes' name, so it's wicket maiden on his scorecard. Three for 27 off 14 overs to spearhead the attack.

But every bowler has chipped in with a wicket as captain Will Rhodes has marshalled them superbly in the field.

  13. wicket

    Ole, ole, ole!!

The Champions songs are not far away now as Chris Woakes produces more wizardry.

Another superb ball and this time, it's Jack Leach's off-stump which is flattened. That was simply too good for Leach.

  14. More silverware for Mark?published at 15:34 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    Warwickshire v Somerset 106-7 (Target 273)

    RobinsonImage source, Getty Images

If Warwickshire go on to take these last three wickets, it will complete a superb first season at the helm for coach Mark Robinson.

He arrived at Edgbaston in January after the club had endured a difficult 2020 for his first job since leaving the England women's role in 2019 after four years in which they won the 50-over World Cup at Lord's in 2017.

Robinson is no stranger to county success, either. He twice coached Sussex to the title in 2006 and 2007 and four more One-Day trophies.

County Championships with different teams would be a real feather in his cap.

  15. Guard of honour for Clarkepublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    Surrey 677-4 v Glamorgan 672-6 dec

Nice moment at The Oval as Surrey all-rounder Rikki Clarke strides out for what is going to be his final first-class innings.

A guard of honour is formed by the Glamorgan players and the umpires while Ben Foakes hangs back and lets him take the applause.

    Nice touch.

A superb session for Warwickshire. They have broken the back of Somerset's batting with 70-6 in the last two hours.

Only three wickets required. 40 overs to do it.

Bears fans, you must be getting excited now?

  19. wicket

WICKET Pope b Rutherford 274published at 15:08 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    Surrey 677-3 v Glamorgan 672-6 dec

It's all over finally for Ollie Pope.

He takes a skip down the wicket and a big swing against Hamish Rutherford but misses it completely and is bowled.

He departs for a career-best 274 from 345 balls and hands Rutherford a maiden first-class wicket.

That's also tea at The Oval.

  20. Surrey ahead!published at 15:07 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

    Surrey 675-3 v Glamorgan 672-6 dec

Just before tea on the fourth day at The Oval and Surrey have a first-innings lead!

Not joking, there are some Glamorgan fielders on the deck looking forlorn.

Ollie Pope is still unbeaten on 274 as wicketkeeper Chris Cooke contemplates taking off his gloves and pads and becoming Glamorgan's 11th-different bowler used in this innings.
