Warwickshire know what they have to do to overtake Lancashire after their thrilling one-wicket victory over Hampshire and win the County Championship. They must take ten Somerset wickets.

The intrigue is in how the Bears go about doing that. We know they lead by 157 runs after racing to 179-1 last night and we have 96 overs of cricket in prospect today. But they need to give themselves enough time to get those wickets.

Perhaps they will adopt a T20 mindset this morning. Rattle up 150 in 20 overs or so then declare, leaving Somerset a target of either 300-odd or 75 overs to survive.

Captain Will Rhodes starts the day on 42 not out and he can drive this intent from the middle.

  10. How it stands in Division Onepublished at 10:28 British Summer Time 24 September 2021

So after Lancashire's thrilling one-wicket win against Hampshire at Aigburth on Thursday, Hampshire's chances of lifting the title are over.

That result also finally ended Nottinghamshire's slim hopes of being crowned champions, so we're down to either Lancashire or Warwickshire.

With results and bonus points already in, here's how the top four stand:

    1. Lancashire 73.5
    2. Hampshire 61.5
    3. Warwickshire 61
    4. Nottinghamshire 57

A win for Warwickshire will take them to 77 points and crown them champions, a draw would only see them finish with 69 points.

A win for Nottinghamshire would see them finish on 73 points, so second place and qualification for next week's Bob Willis Trophy final is still very much in their grasp.
