Well, unfortunately that's the end of our coverage for today from Lord's.

Commentary from the IPL continues though both on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra and the BBC Sport website and app.

We've got the close of play report live on site plus we'll have more reaction later on from both sides.

Weather permitting, we'll plan to resume our coverage from 10:15 BST on Friday as Warwickshire go in search of the four remaining wickets they need to complete an emphatic win.

In the meantime, thanks for being with us.

  2. A waiting gamepublished at 17:15 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 171-6 v Warwickshire 518

Another day that belongs to Warwickshire, for whom the only frustration is that the weather has probably beaten them to victory inside three days.

They racked up 54 more runs from their overnight 464-7 to eventually reach a mammoth 518 and a lead of 440.

George Balderson hit 65 and Luke Wells 41 but with those two out, resistance in Lancashire's batting has been in fairly short supply.

It is now a waiting game until Warwicks have their hands on the Bob Willis Trophy to go with their County Championship title.

  3. Close of playpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 171-6 v Warwickshire 518

That's it. Play is abandoned for the day.

It's pretty grim out there now to be fair.

  4. rain stops play

The bad light has turned into rain.

  5. Weather watchpublished at 16:36 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 171-6 v Warwickshire 518

A quick look at the weather for London for tomorrow is not too encouraging as can be found here.

With rain and showers in the morning, that would suggest Warwickshire may have to wait until tomorrow afternoon to win this game.

No wonder that's why captain Will Rhodes looked so frustrated to go off just now.

  6. A lengthy stoppagepublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 171-6 v Warwickshire 518

It is very dark out there and the light does not look like it will be getting better any time soon.

The players could be off the field for quite a while - if not the rest of day three.

The ground staff have now brought on the big Lord's hover-cover, too.

  7. Nightmare spellpublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 171-6 v Warwickshire 518

That was a bit of a nightmare 20 minutes for Lancashire. Not quite on the scale of the first morning, but a tough spell for the batters.

You know the light is bad, you can guess you will come off soon, so it's hard to concentrate and Dane Vilas and Steven Croft perished.

Warwickshire may only have needed another 20 minutes to wrap up the game.

As we have seen in previous years from West Indies and India, matches can be lost in the blink of an eye batting under dark skies with the lights on at Lord's.

Will Rhodes isn't happy there. He's shared a few "choice" words on camera to the umpires about that decision.

Tim Bresnan's probably saying, 'give me a white ball and I'll finish the match off with that'.

The slight worry in terms of the match is that the forecast isn't great for tomorrow.

While the weather's dry, why not give yourself every chance to finish it now?

  10. Bad light stops playpublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 171-6 v Warwickshire 518

Three strikes. And we are finally off for bad light.

  11. A day-night game starting at 10.30published at 16:14 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 171-6 v Warwickshire 518

The umpires take a second light reading. Still play goes on.

It now looks like a day-night game - the only difference is the red ball and not a pink one.

  12. Did Croft hit it?published at 16:12 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 170-6 v Warwickshire 518

Nobody in the commentary box can quite believe the dismissal of Steven Croft as replays make it look like he missed the ball and it spun out of the footholes.

But Croft just seemed to turn and walk off and accept his fate without any sign of dissent.

Let's be honest, Lancashire know their fate already.

That really did have the look of catching practice ahead of a day's play that dismissal of Vilas.

But the more you look at that wicket of Steven Croft, the more it appears he has missed that ball by a long distance.

Warwickshire will want to stay out there despite the fading light.

They'll want to get this done tonight and start their celebrations as soon as possible.

  15. Wood in the moodpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 166-6 v Warwickshire 518

Luke Wood comes in at number eight and rattles up fours off his first two balls.

Wood made 46 not out in the abject 78 all out in the first innings and he looks in the mood to play some shots.

  16. wicket

WICKET Vilas c Hain b Miles 25published at 16:04 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 158-6 v Warwickshire 518

Warwickshire are closing in now as Dane Vilas becomes the sixth man to depart.

Craig Miles almost chops Vilas in half and then from the next ball, Vilas tamely wafts outside off-stump and it is guided radar-like into Sam Hain's hands at second slip.

A second catch for Hain, and both of them have been absolute gimmes.

Definitely looks like Warwickshire will only be batting once.

Steven Croft trying to drive the ball through the covers and it ends up in the buckets of Tim Bresnan at first slip.

There was hardly even a celebration there from Warwickshire.

  18. wicket

WICKET Croft c Bresnan b Briggs 3published at 15:59 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 158-5 v Warwickshire 518

Steven Croft has had a rather tortured stay at the crease but it is brought to an end.

After being beaten by Danny Briggs earlier in the over, Croft is teased into a drive and Tim Bresnan with a safe pair of hands at slip does the rest and he departs with three off 31 balls.

Five more wickets tonight for Warwickshire if they manage to stay on the field.

A tell-tale sign that it doesn't look great in terms of the light is when you can see all four shadows appearing around the players from the floodlights.

You can see that now on the two batters and all the slip cordon.

  20. Postpublished at 15:57 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 156-4 v Warwickshire 518

Umpire Mike Burns takes only two balls to take a light reading. We stay on for now.

Dane Vilas grabs a couple of twos but the umpires are still in conversation about the conditions.
