  1. Here comes Brespublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 36-1 v Warwickshire 518

Tim Bresnan is thrown the ball by fellow Yorkshireman Will Rhodes. Two Yorkies, successful with Warwickshire, trying to put Lancashire to the sword.

Bresnan will have some of that!

Not his best over however, as George Balderson picks up two easy fours.

He would have wanted to finish his Lancashire career with a big innings, so Alex Davies will be disappointed with that.

He's not gone out in the way he would have wanted to.

Maybe he'll take his pads off now and then go and sit in the Warwickshire dressing room with his soon-to-be team-mates?!

That is not the way in these circumstances to lose a wicket.

Alex Davies knew he was out, the fielder knew he was out, the only person who didn't seem to know was David Millns the on-field umpire.

That is a terrible way to lose a wicket with Lancashire's situation in the game.

Alex Davies taps one down into the legside and sets off for a single. But Craig Miles is quick on to it and his splendid dive and throw has Davies well short of his crease, confirmed by the third umpire.

So Davies leaves Lancashire on that unsatisfactory end.

The whole situation with his present club and future club seemed to make him unsettled at the crease.

I do feel in favour of two divisions.

I felt the first phase of this season in the three groups of six really worked.

But I think the second phase, if you're not in Division One and in contention for the County Championship, needs some looking at.

  6. dropped catch

Dropped catchpublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 23-0 v Warwickshire 518

A big let-off for Alex Davies!

It's a check-drive off Liam Norwell that travels low to Danny Briggs at mid-off. The fielder has to dive, but gets to two hands on it yet the ball does not stick.

Davies looks a bit skittish here, but gets a welcome four when Briggs mis-fields a drive.

  7. What should the tactics be?published at 12:08 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 17-0 v Warwickshire 518

George Balderson goes for a big drive off Craig Miles and misses. Not sure he will last long trying shots like that.

Although quite what tactics should you adopt when the deficit is so big?

Balderson gets a couple when Miles overpitches, but he is beaten by a fine delivery to end the over.

The stats men have been busy delving through the archives and have found that Lancashire's heaviest ever first-class defeat was by an innings and 220 runs against the touring West Indies side in 1950.

In domestic cricket, it was by an innings and 200 runs against old rivals Yorkshire in 1938.

Lancashire need 221 to avoid their worst ever defeat; 241 to avoid that domestic loss record.

It's a brave and interesting decision by Alex Davies making the move from Lancashire to Warwickshire.

We heard from Paul Farbrace yesterday that he won't necessarily be starting off with the wicketkeeping gloves and Michael Burgess will be preferred as the first choice.

But, it's a nice dilemma to have for Warwickshire and a big challenge ahead for Alex Davies.

Liam Norwell gets one to nip back and just clears the top of Alex Davies' stumps. Then the Warwickshire seamer sends one past the outside edge of the bat.

    Nervy moments for Davies.

Craig Miles took five wickets on Tuesday and he has the ball in his hand now from the Nursery End.

Alex Davies gets off the mark in his final Lancashire knock before he joins Warwickshire. You could say this is a very early pre-season net for him.

    He's not a natural opening batter George Balderson, he's a genuine all-rounder.

I like it when young players like that stick their hand up and say, 'I'll do that job'.

Says a lot about his character.

Ian Bell is right - Lancashire have got to do some serious batting second time around with a deficit of 440.

They lasted 27.5 overs first time, so let's hope there is more stickability about them today.

Alex Davies has swapped his wicketkeeping pads for batting ones and he has been joined by George Balderson.

Liam Norwell to open the bowling for Warwickshire from the Pavilion End.

Lancashire are going to have to do some serious batting now.

They haven't got a lot to play for now in this game, but individually they'll be players in the batting line-up who will want to finish this season on a high.

The tough thing for them is this now feels like a poor end to the season when they've had a very good campaign.

Nice bit of bowling from Matt Parkinson.

Nice flight and drift with some revs on the ball. He's quite hard to get down the wicket as his natural pace is a bit slower.

I don't think he's done himself any harm with that performance especially when tour parties are being considered for the winter.

    All over after 147.2 overs.

Manraj Johal tries to come down the wicket but he's beaten by Matt Parkinson and the ball spins into the stumps. A minor victory for the leggie and he finishes with commendable figures of 4-78.

Still Warwickshire end with a first innings lead of 440!

'I might have been put down at number 11 on the scorecard, but next match, I want to be a bit higher up the order'.
