WICKET Bohannon c Hain b Norwell 8published at 14:38 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 120-3 v Warwickshire 518

    That is a soft dismissal.

Liam Norwell returns into the attack and his first ball is nothing more than a loosener. It drops short but Josh Bohannon's shot is much worse as he gently guides it into the hands of Sam Hain at second slip.

There are far harder chances in catching practice. A bad shot to think about for the next six months for Bohannon.

Beautiful shot to go to his 50.

From ball one, George Balderson's looked on the mark and shown some great footwork against the spin as well.

  3. 50 runs

50 for George Baldersonpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 115-2 v Warwickshire 518

A lovely drive down the ground with a deflection off the stumps gets George Balderson a nice four to bring up his 50.

It has come off 111 balls with eight fours for the third 50 of the 20-year-old's first-class career.

Balderson is batting nicely. Next in his sights must be his career-best score of 77.

It does look cold out there, but it's nice to see we're getting some cricket in despite the forecast.

I used to take out two or three hand-warmers on days like this.

Coaches used to look towards slip cordons on days like this with their hands in their pockets, thinking the body language is all wrong.

But it's just a case of trying to keep your hands warm for when a chance comes.

  5. The rain staying away... so farpublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 105-2 v Warwickshire 518

The lights are on, the sky is clouded in grey and the flagpoles are fluttering strongly, but there has been no rain today...Yet.

Tim Bresnan is no-balled for a bouncer than zooms over the batter's head. Not quite the same pace at 36 as he had when taking part in two winning Ashes teams.

  7. A scheduling minefieldpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 100-2 v Warwickshire 518

Listening to Kevin Howells and Ian Bell on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra trying to dissect the likely schedule for 2022, there is only one conclusion to draw - it will be impossible to please everybody.

Different competitions, different teams, 20-over cricket, 50 overs, it's a minefield!

On the pitch, a single brings up Lancashire's 100.

Bashing at a good length, that one from Tim Bresnan just got a bit more bounce than the deliveries before it.

Good work from the big man and he's deserved that wicket.

  9. wicket

WICKET Wells c Burgess b Bresnan 41published at 14:08 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 94-2 v Warwickshire 518

The old man of the Warwickshire attack has done it!

Tim Bresnan gets one to bounce a fraction from the Pavilion End and Luke Wells can't help but have a little nibble as he feathers it behind to Michael Burgess.

Bresnan's finger goes up in celebration - just as it did for most of his 72 wickets in Test cricket.

Wells goes for a bright and breezy 41 with some nice shots, but it is not an innings to alter the course of this match.

Excellent use of the feet from Luke Wells as he takes a couple of steps and hits Danny Briggs down the ground for four.

Wells is very active at the crease against the spinner.

He is determined to be proactive and not let Briggs tie him down. That should make for a good contest.

The Pipster: Trying to avoid their worst ever defeat? What Lancs should have avoided is this joke match. If Lancs had won the toss, Warwickshire would be trying to avoid their worst-ever defeat. #bbccricket

Just to recap, Lancashire need 221 in this innings to avoid their biggest ever first-class defeat.

  12. Great time for a spinnerpublished at 13:55 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 81-1 v Warwickshire 518

Two tidy overs before lunch, and here comes Danny Briggs again.

With his team 365 ahead, this is a great time to bowl for Briggs with a slip and a short leg likely to be in place for him all innings.

But close catchers mean space elsewhere and Luke Wells cracks one away square for four and tickles one down fine for another couple.

Luke Wells hits three fours in one Craig Miles over. Two glorious shots down the ground and one run down to third man as Wells and George Balderson reach a 50 partnership.

12 off three balls? It was 12-6 after nine overs on Tuesday morning.

  15. Heroic stoppublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 63-1 v Warwickshire 518

Was that half a chance for Craig Miles? Not sure.

Manraj Johal is cut by George Balderson and it flies towards Miles at point. It's hard to tell whether it carries on the full but it gets through Miles and races away for four.

Miles is involved again as he makes a heroic stop to prevent a boundary. That is fine commitment to save one run when you lead by 377!

50 up for Lancashirepublished at 13:36 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Lancashire 78 & 55-1 v Warwickshire 518

Craig Miles drops short and Luke Wells cuts it towards the vacant third man for four as Lancashire bring up their 50.

We have seen all game that there is no value in bowling short on this pitch.

I've just finished my pork and pak choi stir fry left over from last night. Yum!

Listening to the team enthuse about the food on order at cricket's HQ all week has forced me to up my game from my regular sandwiches.
