Poor BJ Waling just wants an easy end to the day but he's being tested by the odd low bounce from the bowling of Southee. One allowed England to steal a bye. It seems we're just drifting towards the close now.

Graham Wright: Seeing De Grandhomme once again being very difficult to score against, I often wonder how different the World Cup final would have been had he bowled the super over.

I think Colin de Grandhomme looks flippin' fabulous.

Despite the loss of those early wickets I'd say this will unquestionably be England's day if Root and Burns make it through the remaining 10 minutes to the close.

Wagner is tempting Root, like the wafting scent of cake to me when I supposed to be eating healthily. Root ignores the ball outside off.

Burns know that he made a mistake there and he got away with it.

Oh, Rory. After so much good work the England opener almost gives it away with a wild swish outside off. It's the type of shot that makes a crowd 'ooooo' in unison.

I would have thought a world famous hair stylist, taking the time out of their busy schedule to text in, would have at least made it to print and put this shambolic debate to bed. It's an UNKEMPT MULLET.

Next man in Ollie Pope is looking very relaxed on the England balcony. As ever he has the suncream spread across his nose, cheeks and lips. He probably sleeps in the stuff.

No joy for Wagner on his return.

Neil Wagner is back. He has been hit around a bit so far...

Again, De Grandhomme causes Root as much trouble any bowler today with another ball that surprises the Yorkshireman. I wonder if the Aussies are watching. Can they find a burly, mullet-ed, trundler for the winter?

Stuart Broad's Bandana... there's a slight flaw in your argument there - if CdG's hairstyle really is mullet, he wouldn't need a bandana!

There's just the tiniest bit of turn every now and again for Santner. Joe Root and Tim Southee have a giggle about something at the end of the over. 25 minutes remain in the day.

This pitch has had a little bit for everyone. If you show a little bit of determination and application, then runs are out there.

Balls beats bat for the first time in a while as Burns attempts a defensive prod to De Grandhomme.

We're seeing some pedalos on the Regent's Park lake on TV. No word about the whereabouts of Mr A Flintoff.

There is no-one who plays that back cut better than Joe Root in the game at the moment.

The way that Joe Root has played is a lesson to Zak Crawley. Crawley played a really high-risk shot, early in his innings, and as a number three you have to understand that it's very rare that you can go out and play pure strokes on a regular basis.

    Burns 56, Root 38

Hello! Spinner Mitchell Santner has just bowled a throat-high beamer to Joe Root. Someone a startled Root gets some pat on the ball to protect himself and add a couple more runs. Wicketkeeper BJ Watling looks at Santner as if to say "what was that?!"

The England skipper, clearly unnerved, puts away his trademark back-foot chop at the end of the over. It's another good one for England.
