A lot, lot less often than they've been 50-3...

Andrew Walker: How often have England been 50-0 in the last few years?
Shot! Don't bowl there to Dom Sibley - full, on the pads, and the Warwickshire opener clips it away for four to bring up the 50 stand with Rory Burns.
A hearty cheer from the Edgbaston crowd.
It's been watchful but reassuringly responsible batting from this pair this session. Now to convert.

With the odd ball keeping a little low I would just bowl dead straight to Dom Sibley because of his technique, and pack the on-side field.
Dom Sibley taps another single into the leg side.

Ian Hastead: Jimmy’s been my favourite player since his debut. My dad said he bowled like a frog in a blender but I said he was going to be something special. All these years I’ve watched him break records and become the best bowler in Test history! Glad to be proven right!
That's a better looking shot from Rory Burns, even if it yields three instead of four.
A lovely punch through cover point.
Is scoring starting to get a bit easier for this pair now they've seen off the first hour and a bit?
Full from Wagner and it finds Burns' edge but he's gone hard at it and it flashes between the slips and gully away to the fence.
Ouch. Tom Latham crashes into the LED board trying to stop the boundary. Fortunately, the stand-in skipper looks OK.
Rory Burns hustles a three, working it out to deep backward square leg.
It's a bit murky in Birmingham - floodlights are on. Don't think there's a suggestion of rain though, thankfully.
There's another! A punch through the covers for four more by Dom Sibley.
Is this the day he learns to love the off side?

That is a collector's piece - a cover drive from Dom Sibley!
Dom Sibley drives uppishly just wide of point and away to the fence.
That was in the air for a while but Will Young shows that not anything is possible as he can't pull off a blinding one-handed catch. It was a fair distance from him in the end.
And yes I did just look up the other Will Young's discography on wikipedia.
The first from Mitchell is too full and Burns tucks it off his toes for two.
The last is a fine delivery, leaving Burns and beating the outside edge.
Change of bowling for the Kiwis - here comes Daryl Mitchell.

I wonder if this pitch will quicken up by the end of the day and tomorrow. There's no real pace or extra bounce at the moment. The odd ball has been dug in by Trent Boult and Matt Henry, but there's no great deal of bounce yet.
Neil Wagner continues after drinks to Dom Sibley.
Not much happens and that's a(nother) maiden.
I've heard Ben Stokes also enforces queueing systems and the quality of cups of tea in his spare time, so vital he is to this country.

Amazing how much this country relies on Ben Stokes. For balance, match winning innings, match winning spells, a World Cup. Side just looks totally wrong without him in there.
