  3. Highlights from the morning sessionpublished at 13:15 British Summer Time 10 June 2021

If you've had a busy morning at work, and now you're on your lunch break, here are some highlights from the morning session.

It includes Dom Sibley driving to the boundary, twice, in the same over. Yes, you have read that correctly.

    Thanks Jack.

Hey, everyone! That's been a cracking little morning for England hasn't it? It might not have been the most exciting at times, but you can bet any amount of money that Joe Root and head coach Chris Silverwood will hold it up as a blueprint.

I just want to end my stint by paying tribute to our BBC Sport colleague Dom Busby, who sadly died earlier today at the age of 53 following a short illness.

Dom was a cricket lover, a truly positive presence around the office and a pleasure to work with on the BBC Radio 5 Live sport desks. He was a fine broadcaster and you may have heard him on many BBC local radio stations over the years.

Our thoughts are with Dom's family and friends. You can read more tributes to Dom here.

As far as New Zealand are concerned the bowling hasn't quite been steady, tight and demanding enough.

It does feel a wee bit like the reserves and second string are out. I've enjoyed the way that Trent Boult has tried to get things going but it hasn't quite been consistent enough.

England made the right choice at the toss. It is cloudy but there hasn't been much swing, there's been more seam movement if anything.

The openers were beaten a couple of times in the first hour, but they've been able to build on it in the second hour. The batters in the shed will be happy with where they are at.

It is looking like a good day to bat.

    Propa crikit.

Hardly the most thrilling session you'll see but given England's torrid top order troubles over recent years, that was very reassuringly responsible from messrs Burns and Sibley.

Tom Latham and New Zealand have to cook up some plans at lunch to try to make the breakthrough.

  13. Lunch - Eng 67-0published at 29 overs

    Burns 32, Sibley 31

Oooshh. Ajaz Patel gets one to swing - yep, swing not spin - back sharply into Dom Sibley but he jams his bat down in time.

And that's your lot for the morning session.

England openers Rory Burns and Dom Sibley survive unscathed through to lunch - a rare and welcome occurance for the hosts.

  14. Eng 67-0published at 28 overs

    Burns 32, Sibley 31

Rory Burns attempts to work Trent Boult to square leg but ends up slicing a leading edge towards point. All along the ground, though.

Another leading edge this time slides between gully and point and Burns scampers two.

Before this game England's openers had only passed 25 twice in the previous 10 Tests. One of the was the 49 at Lord's last week, and they added 63 in the first Test against India in Chennai.

This is now England's highest-opening stand for 11 Tests, since the second Test against West Indies in Manchester when Rory Burns and Dom Sibley added 114.

The last time they added more than this in the first innings was January 2020 when Zak Crawley and Dom Sibley added in South Africa.
