It was the first time that Olly Stone has gone looking for runs, maybe with the new ball being four overs away.

    Stone lbw Patel (Eng 222-7)

Three reds. Hitting the top of leg stump. Olly Stone is gone and England lose a review. And double Nelson does for them.

Stone got in a big stride but couldn't connect and the ball straightened enough that it would have hit.

Still, that's a very important contribution from an inexperienced player.

Ajaz Patel has also bowled brilliantly - will England rue not playing a spinner?

It may be umpire's call on leg stump.

Olly Stone had been playing well until that - where it pitched may be the only thing.

  5. England reviewpublished at 17:27 British Summer Time 10 June 2021

Ajaz Patel has trapped Olly Stone in front as England's number eight misses on the sweep.

    Massive appeal and given.

England have three reviews left so might as well use one and they do...

What a sumptuous drive that is - it is one of the shots of the day. It was a half-volley but Dan Lawrence put that away so easily.

  7. Eng 222-6published at 75 overs

    Lawrence 48, Stone 20

Shot! Oh that's gorgeous from Dan Lawrence, a full-blooded and sweetly-timed drive through mid-off for four.

New Zealand aren't happy with the shape of the ball and neither are the umpires.

A replacement arrives - how much will it swing?

  9. Eng 218-6published at 74.1 overs

    Lawrence 44 (65)

Shot! A peach of a drive by Dan Lawrence crashes away to the fence.

  10. Postpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 10 June 2021

New Zealand have six overs to go until the new ball is available. They'd love a wicket before then.

Neil Wagner will continue after drinks, but no short-pitched field for Dan Lawrence.

England's discipline outside off stump has been appalling. Weren't the batsmen waiting to come in watching when Sibley, Crawley and Root were dismissed? Plus a reminder from Bracey?

Anon (remember to include your names on any text's please!)

This is Olly Stone's highest score in Test cricket. In his previous four innings he'd scored 20 runs and been out four times in 38 balls, after making 19 from 18 on his debut.

  15. Eng 214-6published at 73 overs

    Lawrence 40, Stone 20

Neil Wagner's radar is off as he sends it down wide of off stump and Olly Stone cuts to deep point for three runs.

Dan Lawrence leaves the last alone.

Olly Stone is about to get peppered with short-pitched bowling by Neil Wagner.

Short leg is in. As is leg gully. And square leg goes back to the fence.

He's got the bluff of the yorker up his sleeve too...

Today 30% of the runs have been scored behind square. To put that in context since 2010 in the first innings in England the average has been 21%.

This is a deliberate ploy from Dan Lawrence to go back into his shell a little bit I think because England see the value of this partnership. The thing with Lawrence is he will sometimes get out in an ugly way, because his technique is unorthodox and it will cause criticism, but actually, one of his great strengths is his belief and his ability to play and assess a situation. He's got loads of different gears.

Jam Barrell: Shame Chris Woakes is being 'rested' after playing the sum total of three 20 over games in 9 months. With Stokes injured I'd have been flexible and brought him in
