Oh hello. Another angle suggests the ball might even have hit Mark Wood's knee roll, then the inside edge of his bat and then the pad again.

Did the third umpire look long enough at that?

Or was the first spike Wood's bat hitting the pad as he played the shot?

    Hmmmm.

New Zealand somewhat waste a review.

I'm a better umpire than Matt Henry - clear nick on that.

Has Henry been taking tips off Stuart Broad?

Is there an edge there? It looks very easy to see.

Matt Henry is convinced he's pinned Mark Wood lbw.

Tom Latham and the cordon reckon Wood hit it.

Henry wins the argument and Latham sends it upstairs.

My first instinct was inside edge.

It looks a good pitch to bat on. When batsman have got on they've been able to become accustomed to the pitch and the outfield feels like it has got quicker throughout the day.

From when James Bracey got out England have done well. But if you look at it from the first session they haven't.

If a New Zealand batter gets a hundred they'll have a decent lead.

Dan Lawrence in full flow? Yes please.

A wristy whip round the corner for four. Flair.

Erm. It's raining a bit despite the sunshine in Birmingham.

  10. Eng 242-7published at 84.3 overs

Awwww look mate, that is sumptuous.

Dan Lawrence crunches a delicious cover drive for four. Shot of the day? It's that or Lawrence's drive through mid-off for four earlier.

Either way, Lawrence owns that award.

  11. Eng 238-7published at 84.2 overs

Oooh. Dan Lawrence goes for a pull shot off Trent Boult and almost plays it on to his stumps. What a way to go that would've been after all his hard work.

They would. I don't think it's par but they'd be in the game.

If England get up to 300 they'll be in the game.

Mark Wood edges one off Matt Henry but again it drops short of Daryl Mitchell at third slip.

    Wood defends well.

Lesley Keech: Paul Mitchell (11.22) is starting to look remarkably prescient.

  16. Eng 235-7published at 83 overs

Trent Boult with a big appeal for lbw as Mark Wood falls over his front leg.

But that was swinging too far and going past leg.

Wood leaves the last ball of the over well alone.

This pitch, with the sun out, looks very good for batting on now.

If only England had negotiated that tricky spell after lunch, they'd be on for an imposing total.

They'll hope the cloud forecast for Birmingham does arrive and means the ball will swing. If the sun shines for the rest of this match, you feel New Zealand will have the best of the batting conditions. A good toss to lose.

It's done a little bit, but you just look at the dismissals. It was a big drive from Rory Burns. Zak Crawley looks all at sea. It looks like he's lost his confidence - does he attack or defend? Joe Root was prodding at a ball in the channel before Ollie Pope, that was a really poor stroke, and James Bracey just panicked.

Four of the top six dismissals were really poor cricket strokes.

Kevin Ticehurst: A superb fifty by Dan Lawrence. A very smart innings that, whilst everyone around him have lost their heads.

  20. Eng 234-7published at 17:53 British Summer Time 10 June 2021

    Lawrence 53*, Wood 7*

Wood misses out on a full bunger on his pads, but he sees out the over - mission accomplished. Eight left in the day.
