Matt Henry to Mark Wood...
Dan Lawrence clips a full ball into the leg side and scampers three.
Mark Wood to face Trent Boult - he edges short of third slip, where Daryl Mitchell makes a fine half-stop but Wood scurries a single.
Lawrence sees off the last.

New Zealand have got a great chance of wrapping up the England innings tonight. They could have the perfect first day - bowl them out and not have to bat!
Brief appeal for lbw but way too high.
Second new ball available and it's duly taken.
Trent Boult returns to the attack.

There are raucous cheers and everyone is stood up for a fifty. That is how much people have been starved of live cricket.
Eng 230-7
A crisp punch down the ground from Dan Lawrence for the single that takes him to his third Test half-century.
A vital innings for England, who remain in trouble but would be totally out of it without first Rory Burns and then Lawrence today.

Assuming Stokes is fit for the India series, the second innings is going to be a straight shootout between Pope and Lawrence (maybe Crawley if he goes huge) for the number seven slot.

Mark Wood does his job and blocks out the rest of the over.
Dan Lawrence works it to backward point for a single to move to 49.

Dan Lawrence has played well. He had a scratchy and nervy start and looked like he had no confidence, but he's found his rhythm and looked like he's been in good touch in the last hour or so.
Mark Wood slices over short third man for two and sees out the rest of Ajaz Patel's over. Solid.

If England had got through that half an hour after lunch it would have felt like a long day for New Zealand and they wouldn't have this intensity now.
New Zealand got their rewards for their bowling in the morning session when they had no luck.
A swipe through mid-wicket sees Mark Wood pick up two.
He'd love to have a dart here but can't really with Dan Lawrence set on 48 at the end.
Stuart Broad will have a flay regardless next up though.
Mark Wood is going to get the short stuff from Neil Wagner.
I think we can bank on Wood repaying the favour when (if?) Wagner bats.

Mark Poole: Honestly think 250 would be a competitive total...
Mark Wood is off the mark with a punch to deep cover for a single.
England's batting performance has not quite been as painful to watch as constant adverts featuring Noel Gallagher today.

Olly Stone played well and scored 20, but he survived 51 balls and gave good support to Dan Lawrence.
New Zealand have kept the pressure up and haven't let the game slip away at all, though.
