I was already writing that Joe Root didn't look overly amused or happy this morning and probably has a certain 30-year-old all-rounder swirling round his head.
I can't imagine that drop has helped his mood, but he does give Sam Billings a pat on the back when he goes to retrieve the ball after a wayward bouncer goes for four byes.
England need something. Where is that breakthrough going to come from?
Stuart Broad has already got through five overs this morning. How many more does he have in him?

That should be taken. It's hard when you're a sub and you have to go out there, but Sam Billings is one of the better fielders, so you'd expect him to take that.
This has come from nowhere.
Stuart Broad digs one in, Ross Taylor takes it on, his attempted pull catches the top-edge and goes more up, than far, and Sam Billings at deep fine leg can't quite take the catch as he tumbles forward.
He gets there, gets his hands to it, but the ball just goes through them.
That should be taken.
It's not quite happened for Anderson this summer...
That over felt like it took an age. Mainly because James Anderson and England spent a couple of minutes talking to the umpire about the ball after Jimmy stopped a drive with his boot. Is there a chip missing? It isn't swinging, but they are not going to change it after five overs, boys.
There's a polite enquiry for a catch in the gully, but the ball came off Henry Nicholls' thigh pad rather than the edge or glove.
Stuart Broad told us this morning that he hasn't had a call from his dad, Chris Broad, who is the ICC match referee in this game.

Just heard S Broad continuing to gripe about being denied that 'catch' yesterday. One wonders what the 5th official - a certain C Broad - is making of his son's onfield dissent.

A maiden from Stuart Broad.
How many are New Zealand going to get here? They are going to get well over 450, aren't they? Thumbs up for yes, thumbs down for no.
Ross Taylor is normally a slow starter, at the start of an innings or at the resumption, but he's just carried on from yesterday.
Ominous for England.

Shot! That's more controlled from Ross Taylor. James Anderson gets a bit fuller and Taylor laces it through gully and backward point for four more.
He's added 20 on his own this morning, while NZ have scored 33 in the opening half an hour.

That was David Seaman-esque from Rory Burns, given his current ponytail.

That would've been a spectacular catch by Rory Burns but he wasn't that close to it in the end.
Oh! Half a chance for England.
Ross Taylor goes for a drive, a big booming one, to a ball that isn't there to drive and it flies past Rory Burns in the gully.
He's at full stretch but it's a good few yards out of his grasp.

England have gone straight at Ross Taylor's pads a lot because he's such a big lbw candidate.
But they should bowl a bit more in the channel at him so the one back into the pads is more of a surprise.
There is a bit of risk/reward to it.
I like Henry Nicholls. He seems to have a really uncomplicated, simple game and just plays each ball on merit. Something England could do with in their middle order...
He picks up three more with a cut through the covers.
England haven't really threatened this morning.
I think I'm going to file that away firmly under 'no', Dave.

Can we bowl Lawrence enough that he becomes a legitimate Allrounder? That should only strength his case to bat at 3!
Dave, Cirencester
Jimmy Anderson is straight round the wicket to the left-handed Henry Nicholls, looking to move the ball away.
Nicholls judges a leave, on length, perfectly. It almost dissects him in half, but the ball is a good foot or so over the stumps.
Anderson only made the two batters play once in that over. He'll want to be challenging their defence more as his spell progresses.
England haven't wasted a moment. The new ball is taken and here is Jimmy Anderson.
Joe Root and his side need wickets - note the plural aspect - with this nut.
