It's all happening out there! Much better from Ecclestone, she finds the perfect length and Mandhana almost inside edges it to Tammy Beaumont at short leg.

There are two people in this England team who you don't want to misfield off. Obviously one is Katherine Brunt, but the other is Sophie Ecclestone. She is a fiery young lady!

Heather Knight turns to Sophie Ecclestone, can spin be the key to breaking this partnership?

Short from Ecclestone and Mandhana pulls for four, Sophia Dunkley misfielding in the deep.

Make that consecutive boundaries as Ecclestone again goes too short, almost a carbon copy of the previous boundary.

I really like this battle, Brunt versus Verma. You can see the steam coming out of Brunt's ears. Shafali Verma is just laughing in her face!

    India trail by 319 runs

Oh my, another boundary for India but this time Verma completely misses an attempted hoick and it goes past Amy Jones for four byes.

Verma is smirking, Brunt is not.

I don't even want to think back to what I was doing aged 17. I certainly wasn't hitting Katherine Brunt for back-to-back boundaries - brilliant from Shafali Verma.

The first is a little step down the wicket as she launches the England seamer back past her head, the second a delicate cut.

It's just hard to fathom Verma being 17. I know Sophie Ecclestone was 16 when she made her debut, but these youngsters making their debuts are just getting better and better.

It's Kate Cross with the first over after tea.

You can hear hustle and bustle of Bristol in the background at the County Ground, while the England fielders shout words of encouragement to Cross.

The seamer with a nice and tidy line to Mandhana, the India opener solidly defending a maiden over.

England were always going to be confident but no matter how many runs you have on the board, you still need to prise 20 wickets. It can be hard. One brings two though...

Andy Pitt: The bowlers aren't trying to swing the ball even though it's less than 20 overs old? Is that just because they are so used to bowling with a white ball? Or would it be a plan to bowl this way?

This week's edition of the Stumped podcast has dropped on BBC Sounds. The team debate whether there is still a need in the game for soft signals or whether umpires should rely solely on technology. You can find the episode here.

    Cheers, Ffion.

We all wondered how 17-year-old Shafali Verma - the world's top-ranked T20 batter - would take to Test cricket.

The answer? Pretty well, so far. Time for us to look back on the best bits from the afternoon session.

It was an agricultural shot but Verma got enough on that for it to squirt across the outfield.

  20. Tea 63-0published at 23 overs

    Mandhana 27, Verma 35

An aggressive sweep from Verma grants her another four off a decent Ecclestone delivery. I don't think the spinner will mind seeing that too much, she will feel she's in with a chance.

India will be very pleased with that session, and England will be grateful for the break.
